FYI. Bharathi CD is now available at IndiaPlaza site (http://www.indiaplaza.com/). I have just ordered it. I could never succeed creating an account in Musicracks.com, that site is very lousy. But, I miss ordering Ilayavan and KUT (only casettes available in Musicracks). It is disappointing that they are not yet available in the bay area! Or is it?

2 interesting news for IR and Co fan....
1)Yuvan Shanker Raja bags new offers
Earlier it was reported that Dhina from Tamil TV world would make his movie debut with Manirathnam's new film "Dum Dum Dum" as new music director. However somehow Mani has lost faith in Dhina because Yuvan Shanker Raja has recently replaced him in the same film.
Besides "Dum Dum Dum" Yuvan has also bagged one more prestigious project. This one is a film called "Dheena" with Ajithkumar in the lead. Initially it was expected that A.R. Rhman could helm music for this new film. However for some reason the offer now has been extended to Yuvan Shanker Raja instead.
2)"Bharathi" is critically acclaimed
Recently released film "Bharathi" from director Gnana Rajasekharan has been immensely acclaimed by critics all over. Particularly with his stellar performance of the role of legendary Tamil poet Subramania Bharathi in the film, Marathi stage actor Shayaji Shinde has proved everyone beyond doubt a true artist would outshine beyond all lingual barriers. Of course credit should also be given to actor Rajeev who lent his majestic voice for Shayaji Shinde.
As far Devayani it is another wonderful performance from the talented lass. In fact you could say that Devayani never acted but just relived as Bharathi's wife Chellamma herself in the film. Besides in "Bharathi" Maestro Illayraja with his enthralling music score has certainly made a remarkable comeback. Then there is great screenplay from Gnana Rajasekharan rendered well with pleasing camerawork from Thankar Pachan.
Despite all these positive aspects of the film, when it comes to commercial success, "Bharathi" has only got a raw deal at the box-office. Ruefully our people who always rush to movie-halls for glamour and eroticism, once again has failed to appreciate a quality film like "Bharathi". Reportedly there is hardly any crowd for the film in all trade centers.
Strangely even Tamil Nadu government so far has ignored the film by not giving the film a tax-free status. Actually it would be, nice if the government is generous enough to recognize the film by giving it a tax-free status so the film could recover a little of its production cost.
"Bharathi" may not be a commercial success. All said and done, with its superior quality it is certain that the film is bound to bag plenty of awards in near future.

ir fan,
A friend of mine from Mds who came to b'lore yesterday, said, he cudn't get tickets for barathi twice and he had to wait till the next session of ticket distribution started to get the tickets...
Is it that the movie is doing well only in Mds ??

It could be that relatively fewer prints combined with smaller theaters wherever screened, makes this film more precious.
With all round praises, people have started flocking now (even though the initial response was reportedly lukewarm)!

Guys
IT FINALLY HAPPENED YESTERDAY. Maestro Was right on time for the meeting at 7.30. He talked about the institute and nothing else. He requested us not to write bits and pieces in the internet as he feels it would create a negative impact. SO I am not writing anything about it.
We where aroung 35 people. We had questions about the institute and he answered everyone of them. He was with us for two hours. He asked us not to take videos during his speech.
We had a photo session in the end. We arranged food from woodlands. He left at 9.30.
Never in my life did I think that I would meet a genius like him, that too in the USA.
I have taken lots of snaps and will put them in the web(all the good ones) as soon as possible.

Dear IR Fans,
For u r kind information. Bharathi is doing good it has a steady decent audience. I saw the movie twice (I am in Trichy) the audience were matured and decent there was no whisting, cat calling but there were quite a number of applause.... and the audience behaved in a most diligent manner they left the theatre only after the screen dropped...they were glued to it....
It was really nice to see the people who normaly prefers a VCD/DVD have came to theatre to watch Bharathi..Kudos to Gnana Rajasekharan, Illayaraaja, Thankar Bachan, Lenin Vijayan and last but not the least the producers Sujatha, Varadharajan of Media Dreams....

Barathi as a movie and as music score ranks very
high in the recent times. IR is a legend and it is most befitting that he composed music for this great venture.
He has given folk, indian classical and a tinge of western classical scores well blended and balanced. kudos to IR.

Friends from what RajaVeriyan says
I thinks he is here to collect fund for his institution to be set up in Madras.
I assume he is also planning some albums in the future in colloboration with american music companies and musicians ,hope i am right,
well hope Rajaveriyan has something to say on this.
For a person of IR talents i think he should get good PR and effective mgr. who can mobilise his music in USA,if they do it correctly we can hear wonderful symphnys from IR,even good BGM for a decent hollywood movie and so many things are possible both here and UK.
I wish and pray for his success ..
What do u guys say?

Hello Critic
With all Due respects to the person who done the review,I think he went to see everything he liked to see on bharathi. Now one cannot justify everyones view of a Great Legend like Bharathy,
Mr.GnanaShekaran was very clear he wanted to potray Bharathi in a more human closeup than a legends and btw there so many things to say and cover in 3hrs there is always a limitations.
And instead of appreciating such good effort this person chooses to be very picky.
It is very easy to sit and to armchari comment
why cant he appreciate such a good effort, and sure there are some small point missed but on the larger picture the movie is definetely positive and refreshing..
This is my point of view.
And generally rediff always select some half baked persons todo interview and articles esp. involving south indian movies dont know why ?

most laughable statement from the rediff review
"Also, the scenes between Bharati and his wife Chellammal are shown as very domestic and mundane, the most pressing concerns are the lack of groceries in the house. Romance and chemistry? Zilch. Perhaps if Kamal had played Bharati....? "
yeah, Kamal would have had a couple of lip-to-lips with devayaani which would have been splashed all across the ads and would have brought the much needed publicity to the film;))
- From: kk (@ 198.4.92.5)
on: Tue Sep 26 17:35:46 EDT 2000
vijay...
i too wonder, what kamal could have done as a actor. Isnt it director/writer who is responsible for this?. May be reviewer means what kamal could have done surprisingly, like he did in punnagai mannan.
- From: vijay (@ 129.252.28.53)

kk,
what do u expect kamal to do "surprisingly" in a romantic scene ? he has surprised a whole lot of actresses, rekha, sukanya.. and u know what he did to them;))
