Venkatesh,
Thanks a lot. Amazing lines.. the rhythm in the lyrics and the usage of classical Tamil words is someting I haven't seen in ages.
This song deserves the best lyrics award.
I appreciate your effort in getting it transliterated and translated. Thanks in advance.

I'm glad at last this song (Edhilum ingu...) is getting its due recognition. Although it was under-rated even here initially it is good to see people expressing their liking to the song slowly. In fact, I feel it is the best song in the album, better that Nirpadhave. The lyrics, the tune and the music along with the rendition (a very difficult tune to sing, give it a try) makes it the best in the album.
Judt the way we feel bad when some of IR's really good music does not get its' due recognition, we should feel equally bad (and held responsible !!!) if beautiful lyrics like these don't get their due recognition.

In fact, I liked both Neel's (mis)interpretation ("Shiva's giving life to Parvati's son by affixing a black elephant's head") and Venkatesh's meaning of the lyrics ("his throat is blue due to swallowing of Aalagaala Visham (poison)").
Seems like you both can become good lyricists !!!

Friends,
I listened to friends songs atlast. OOH they were great. I would pick "Manjal Poosum" as my first best, it has got good orchestration background, which is Raja's touch. "Kuyilukku koo koo" will be the second, it has got the regular Raja melody, still different. All the other songs were his regular tunes.
This is somewhat similar to Kadhalukku Mariyadhai. Two songs are excellent and all the other songs will enjoy a listening staying under the shade of the two songs.

My personal opinion for a good song is rhythm and the tune. If you take any song, no matter what language or country or singer or musician, you will find only the songs with good rhythm has been a hit and stays in the minds of the people for ever.
One example is michael jackson his songs are still in people's mind and still great songs just for the reason, that they are great rhythms.
The other secret for a great song, is in the tune. A good tune will make your hair stand up. Celine dion's "Titanic" theme song is of that kind. Even you listen to it after 5 years I bet you will have the same feeling you had when you listened to it first.
IR's big songs fit into both the categories. His songs are great in a rhythmic composition and tune. That is the reason why, even if you hear some of his old songs you can feel and recollect the days when you listened to them first.
That is why most of the other composer's don't last, they live on some catchy phrases and bits, so they don't last long in the minds of people
And no music composer in the world can compose each and every song as the best in the world. So just don't just say IR lost touch or this and that. Listen to every song and decide.

Rama,
I agree. I was listening to Azhagaar Aayiram in Ullasa Paravaigal. The 2nd bgm is a standing example of what you say, besides other songs.
Good observation.

The latest album from IR 'Friends' may not be a great album but it is listenable. These words are coming from a hardcore IR fan like me. Even now i feel IR should have tried to put an inspired effort. Cos, where and when else IR wud get such a good youthful combination man. It is a wasted effort i wud say. Why cudn't he churn something new which he did for "Kochu Kochu santhoshangal' and other mallu albums.
Atleast let's see his sons do.

venkatesh,
i don't know about the audio release. i was talking about the premiere of the animation film itself. Pentamedia, which has produced the film, is inaugurating its Mayajaal multiplex on East Coast Road on Saturday, and the film is scheduled to be premiered there. am trying hard for a pass, let's see if luck's with me.
everyone who's seen the film has only great praise for raja's music, which is the only reason i am keen on checking it out.

". In present day scenario, people want different interludes with good continuity(may be he can use some more keyboard stuff to arrive different unheard sounds). He did them well in Hey Ram!"
IR has done and is doing songs like this. The oldest I can remember is rOsAppU ravikkaikkAri (uchchi vaguntheduthu). It was not IR alone but that is how traditionally songs were made. But IR because of his interest in Western Classical Music wanted to give people a taste of it. So that is the reason for the pure melody based interludes (and preludes). I think it makes it interesting/innovative.
