Friends will be a definite hit. SOngs are nothing but excellent. I think, the songs are much better than the songs of the hits like Rhythm and Kushy.
One more thing, come back for a person can happen if he is down. IR is never in the down-fall. The only music director who has steady and strong market for more than quarter century is IR only. Many people mix his personal things with his music. IT is an unfair attitude of out tamilians. IR's music is always quality one.No need to compare with anybody.
Cheers,
Robin

Well
'Friends' friends is nothing extraordinary.
Its the same IR pattern nothing new.
In fact in these days its not right for us expect anything new from IR the same old formula again and again. He has already given lot of new things to TFM when tfm wasnt even matured to understand those (may be) running out of steam :) !!'

Maybe IR is not wasting his energy on Friends. We will have to wait and see how the movie turns out.
The same thing was written about Bharathy but the songs were composed for the movie and not for cassette sales.

Are there 2 divisions among IR fans here? One wants him to do soft music (Bharathy, kaakkai siraginilae..) and another want him to do something modern/new/electronic (Time, Friends...)

Friends
IR music the latest ones totally lack direction and punch he used to have lets say 'The Master lost his touch'.
If you recall songs like
'Anjali Anjali' what a beautiful song for chord progession another one is 'Kannan Vanthu' from Rettai val kuruvi,'Masi Masam alana' has the beautiful keyboard punches
'Poove Sembu poove' for beautiful Guitro intro(terrific guitar plucking) and
'Andi mazhai' for western, indian classical fusion songs and evergreen classic like 'En iniya ponnilave' or 'Ilaya Nila' when he used to set such high standards such as great intro, beautiful chord progression and orchestration those compostion when you compare with the trash that he gives its just unbelievable :( makes feel sad and disappointed with our Isai Gnani karpani vathi pona keni aiyataru :(
Friends please chappa kattu kata venam, sincera think panni parunga
I am pretty confident IR still has the fire in him to change TFM again, but will he do it ?
Going by his current music thats seems like a Kanal Neer

Vel, thanks for the link...
I liked the songs, "Poongaatre", "Thenral.." & "Manjal..".
As NagaS had told in his review, Hariharan has
sung the "poongatre" song very well. The tune is very good & the first interlude ( as I heard this song on RaajanGAHM ) is too good to be missed. It
should be very apt for the situation, I guess.

Guys,
a request.
Is there any place where I can get the lyrics of 'Ethilum Ingu Iruppaan Avan Yaro' a beautiful song penned by Pudumaipithan in the film, Bharati. IMO, it's the best Tamil film lyrics in ages. Complimented very well by IR's superlative tune in Rasika Ranjani raga.
Madhu Balakrishnan's rendition is great.
He was quite ok on the pronunciation end, unlike other new comers.
I followed the entire lyrics. I have difficulty in a deciphering a few areas. I'd appreciate it if some one could point out to the lyrics.
Sample these wonderful lines:
Varippuli Athazh Tarithavan Neril KandEn
PiRappenum piNi ARuppavan ThuNai KoNden
Tamizhkkavi Tharum Enakkoru Varam
Tavath ThiruvuLam veNdum
Tagathinuk(??) Enai Tara(t) tagum neRi
Vaguthida ThuNai veNdum.
AaLam Karu VELam ena TheLiyum Oru KaNNan (?)
ANdum Chiruth ThoNdan Enum(K) Adiyaar(k) Oru ThoNdan
Pattruth ThaLaikku Neruppavan
Ottraik KaNathil Azhippavan
Netrip piRaikkuL(?) Neruppai VaLarthu
(Ethilum Ingu...)

Raja buff's listening to 80's CDs, please SRS WOW effect that comes with windows media player 7. Its enhances old stero recordings very well. Gives todays recording run for thier money. I want to buy the hardware version for my system. May be some day technology will improve such a way, we can adjust even MKT's songs sound like todays recording whiz's irrelevent.

It is simply amazing how IR gives a lovely album without making a big fuss of anything. Many other MDs norally require big promos, advertising campaigns, casette release functions and big media hype in order to get their casettes sold. I cannot remember any of that happening for an IR movie (maybe Hey Ram is an exception).
IR differs from the others in the sense that, whatever fame he has achieved is simply due to his own credentials(of course, God's grace) and not due to any external factors.
TFM is indebted, and shall remain inedebted to IR for his contribution.

two songs are too good-will give a fair run for any present day songs.poongatre is good.i will give a thumbs up for Freinds.i have no problems with http:/www.raaga.com.
listen and enjoy.
rukku rukku sounds very ARRish-the beats ,the anglicised tamil pronounciation.,the verses and the male voice(YSR)-he sounds like ARR in a few places.i have a strong feeling this song was probably done by YSR!it does not sound like an IR number at all.

IsaiPriyan:
You are right. Most of these days albums are marketed. There seems to be more to marketing than to produce a unique album.. What was the marketing channel for IR ? Probably the only advt. he had was Cyelon Ratio..Most of us probably listened to them casually without being thrusted down to our throats. I remember in the 80s that most of us really hunted down hidden recording places to have the songs recored in the cassette..These days ? Things to look like garage sale nowadays ! Flashy CD covers ?!!!

Dear UV,
You are talking about IR not giving anything new! But important thing to note is, some one can give new things only when they are provided with challenging situation. That is in the hands of great directors like mani ratnam, Balachander, Singeetham srinivasa rao, Kamal productions... With most of these guys, IR is having problems. So what he is getting is only left overs and mostly stories which lack new situations.
Touch your heart and tell me, when he was given opportunities by these people, did he ever waste any time? I don't think so. All the movies with these combinations was a great hit. Even recently consider his work with Kamal in Hey Ram! In my opinion, he has done good work on that. The picuturisation of songs was not given any great importance in this movie, but songs by itself were different.
Also I some time feel that IR is good at coming out with a good original happening tune, but he is not spending time in decorating it. In mid eighties when he was very busy(out of 12 movies release in one season 10 will be having IR music), he evolved a successful patterns of interlude music i.e. music between two paragraphs of a song. I don't know why he is not changing it. In present day scenario, people want different interludes with good continuity(may be he can use some more keyboard stuff to arrive different unheard sounds). He did them well in Hey Ram!
I don't know whether he will get chance with good directors again.

neels...
i cud not understand much in those lines of 'ethilum ingu' bcos it was a Tamizh song :-).
for the last line whatever i understood when i hear the song i tell u, it may or may not be correct.
the line is netripiraikkuL neruppai vaLarthhu..
netri pirai, i think pulavar is mentioning the eye brows...lord siva is having an eye near his eye brows its capable of giving out fire thats is y this line was written...
other interpretation could be that the third eye out there near eye brows are like thilagam on his forehead which is generally of pirai shape for males so pulavar is comparing the third eye with that pirai shaped thilagam. that thilagam is capable of giving out fire...and hence the line.

Kuppuswamy,
Thanks.
I guessd so too. It is possibly the third eye.
I wasn't very sure of the words, that's why the '?' mark.
Tagathinukk(u)Enai Tharathagum NeRi Vaguthida ThuNai VeNdum.. I understood the line, except for the word 'Tagam'.
What is Tagam? Is it 'World'?
Thanks

Also, 'Aalam Karu VeLam Ena TheLiyum oru Kannan'
Karu veLam is black elephant. What is Aalam?
Does this line refer to Shiva's giving life to Parvati's son by affixing a black elephant's head?

Neels
It is Aaalam Karu Neelam ena theriyum oru kantan. Means his throat is blue due to swallowing of Aalagaala Visham (poison) which came out of the milky ocean.
This song is a classic and I am planning to transliterate and translate the whole song.
