  Mu. Kalajiam's ( a staunch IR follower) next movie will have 'Haslam Mustafa' as the MD (he is singer with couple of songs to his credit).

  Chennai, July 7: Kamal Hassan is happy that his film ‘Hey Ram’ bagged three
  national awards. He is particularly delighted that his wife and former actress,
  Sarika, has been adjudged the best costume designer for her work in the film.
  However, Kamal, an artiste who never gives up the search for better results,
  is disappointed that three others who worked in the film didn’t figure in the
  national awards.
  No, he is not talking of the best actor award, which he missed this year. The
  three men who deserved a national award were music director Ilayaraja,
  cameraman Thiru and art director Sabu Sheriff.
  While he is delighted that Sarika, Mantra (special effects) and Atul Kulkarni
  (supporting actor) have bagged national awards for their contribution to this
  film, Kamal Hassan feels that the outstanding work of Ilayaraja , Thiru and
  Sabu has not got the due recognition.
  The music of Ilayaraja, in particular, was brilliant, Kamal said, referring to the
  landmark re-recording.
  About his wife’s work, Kamal said he would be lavish in praise of her awesome
  contribution as costume designer even if she was not his wife. He said he was
  aware of the pains she took in preparing the costumes for the period film. He
  was absolutely delighted that her work had been recognised at the all-India

  IR atleast for Rajni has never been a losing horse. it has been the other way around. films like dalapathi, paandian with great songs had bombed badly for no fault of IR. And it doesnt help that Rajni does not have the music sense of a Kamal or Mani rathnam to extract the best from IR. He should be thankful to IR probably for the rest of his life for the kind of songs he got for his pathetic films.

  what about 'anbe intha mannan'? has rajni got a song like that since then? even the other songs liek 'ulagathukaaga piranthavan naane' were much better rajni-type songs as compared to 'naan autokaaran' or 'vandhendaa paalkaaran' etc.

  iam not saying they were HITS. i said they were great songs. its very sad that u missed out on that song. see thats what happens;)) when a film like padayappa succeeds even a mediocre song in that film gets repeatedly played on TV and gets noticed while songs like 'anbe nee enna' gets overlooked just because the film bombed badly.
  
  it was rendered by chithra and is a wonderful simple melody so much characteristic of IR.
  
  My point was IR had done so much more justice than he should have for those kind of films like paandian. they didnt deserve these type of songs.

  rajaG, anbe.....mannano...is one of the best tune set by Raja. Chitra sings it sooo well, anyday I would here this song 10,000 times instead other songs in that movie.

  It is pathetic that some very good songs of IR have gone unnoticed. For example "Edho Edho Nenjil.." and "Ilavenirkala Panjami.." from Manam Virumbuthe Unnai never got the attention they deserved. Poratha velai.."shakkalakka Baby.." is getting glorified!!

  There is another song - "Adi jimbaa jeyichhaddindha pandian dhaan, adi jimbaa" - had all the potential to become as big a hit as "Shakalaka baby" has done today - heavy use of drums and guitar - but that song became a non-entity from the ever-forgettable "Pandian"

  I have mentioned this song before when referring to Chitra's expressionless singing :-) Pandian was not one of IR's biggest grossers, but the songs were popular nevertheless - to be honest, some of it must have been due to Rajni fans :-)

  she sings what raja tells her to do.

  I felt one of the best of Ilaiyaraaja & also chitra is "Anbe nee enna andha kaNNanO". It's a disaster that the movie failed in box office.

  Pandiyan is not only popular in madurai, but in whole madurai dt. (Now, Theni & Madurai). Especially, MS's favorite pAndiyanA kokkA kokkA

  "Anbe nee enna " song by Chitra is one of great songs by IR in that movie indeed, as most appropriately said by Vijay, mediocre and idiotic movies like Padayappa and Baasha , just because they were hits (made hit by none other than the highly tasteless makkazh of Tamilnadu) they were played repeatedly in TV and the Tea shops and they are being considered hits by you people. Padayappa one of the worst movies ever scored by ARR, give me one Minsara Kanavu in ten years I can listen for 100 years, but one more Padayappa will make me die in seconds.
