Satish,
You mean for the 'Permanent Topics'? The current topics are not in a table, so I think the wrapping will still occur.
If you think I didn't understand you, pl explain.

Satish, I see your point. Right menu is much better during wrapping.
Guys: Is the small font troublesome? If there are enough hands for this, we can switch back to old style.

Rajaraman,
Fonts size is a non-issue. Any decent browser has font-size controls in it. People can change it as they wish.
The search feature is excellent! You should see the speed of it! (I know you have :)

Thanks for the comments Satish. We are in the process of extending the search to discussion forum. Then you won't have the trouble of sifting thru the archives.

Excellent work Ravi & co. for the new page..Also thanx for the speedy implementation of suggestions to Permanent topics.. The effort of TFM admin in cutting of some repeat as well as contentious / mischievous threads are also commendable..
It is a great relief that U R looking into extending the search facility into archives also..
I would like to suggest an additional feature: chronological listing of thread (based on thread start date or last activity date..) in ascending and descending order.. (Ofcourse, if this exercise is worthwhile and has enough takers for it..) Also the no: of threads is already huge.. Why dont we move all the threads started/had lastactivity in last year(1997) to another page & continue the same for every year (or 6 months - seeing the no: of threads active now it definitely will fill up within 6 months)...
Thanx,
BS

Ravi,
Was there any problem in the server yesterday? I tried to read several threads and it prompted me that 'Documents no data'. But today eveything looks fine.

Ravi,
Many of the threads (and sometimes even the whole discussion page) gave a message "network errors..remote server refuses connection" or something like that. This occurred repeatedly. But the problem went away after a few retries from me.

Ravi:
Continuing from the new faces page..
I'm unable to see an immediate refresh on the Query page after I press the post button.. I have to hit the Reload Button to see the posting (sometimes one hit will do..but usually it takes 2/3 hits..).. Then I hit the Back button twice to get back to the DF Main page.. What I found is that the problem didnt occur when I went directly to the DF Main page ie., without using the Back Button..

bs: By any chance do you press the stop button after posting the query? I am now groping for more clues. :).
What happens to you doesn't happen to me and I am at a loss to explain it. So I need more info from you.
Satish: Regarding the network errors that could be because the serer is overloaded and we cannot do anythign about it. Depending on how severe the problem is we can get it redressed by the service provider.

There was some technical problem with the server yesterday. (overload is one possible reason.) We have restarted it. Things should be fine now.
Let us know if you still get "Document contains no data" frequently.

I haven't pressed the Stop Button before/after posting the response..(I have done this when I was in the initial days in DF and seen that two postings came instead of one..)In the fact the previous site (iti.gov.sg) was much resilient and I didnt have any problems then.. Now it has become very delicate.. Now I'm safely going back to the Main Page instead of hitting Back Button..

No.
If you get "busy" mesg, you have to repost.
You wrote
"What I found is that the problem didnt occur when I went directly to the DF Main page ie., without using the Back Button.. "
Can you explain the problem in more detail?

The initial problem I had was, after writing the response & hitting the post button there was no immediate refresh on the screen to show the posting.. I hit the Reload and lo there were two postings.. But this thing happened only once.. The second problem I had was (even now I have) is that after hitting the post button I was presented with a new page with all the previous postings.. Then I hit the Back button twice to come to the main DF page.. Again two postings were there.. I repeated the same set of actions to have the same result.. I observed that instead of going back thru the Query page again if I use the "Go" item in the menubar to return to the DF OR use the link "Back to the Forum" I won't get the problem of two entries.. Hope I have made myself clear..
Thanx for the response..
Why dont we make this thread & the newtfmpage.COM thread as Permanent topics.. Anything related to newtfmpage like enhancements, new developments, contributions etc. can be there in newtfmpage.COM(I know that "Whats new" is there in the main page but now-a-days I'm coming directly to the forum page) and anything related to the DF in DF page thread.. It can be used to moderate, give any news about enhancements, feedback etc. on the forum..
Thanx,
Bharat

Two postings in the main page?? Probably you mean something else.
After you hit Post, you should get a new page with your post at the end. If you press Back, you will come to the previous page, which is the page where you hit Post.. So you should hit Back again to come to the main page. This is NOT a problem. This is how the browser works.
Of course, if you click on "Back to the forum", you will be taken to the main page directly, because this is a hyperlink.
I don't see the "two posts" problem occuring anymore. Pl try posting in the "testing" thread and see if you simulate the problem.
Re suggestions, comments, feedback, problems about the site, we have two permanent threads already. Click "Comments" / "Help" on the top bar in the main page. Use them.

>Two postings in the main page?? Probably you mean something else...
Yeah! I meant to say that "There were two postings in the thread after doing this activity";
Anyway the problem seems to have cleared now.. I was experiencing some problems with the JAVA Classpath also.. The Java applets were not running.. One of my friends advised to clear Memory cache & other some other caches as well(No idea whatsoever!!!).. I decided the simplest way - to uninstall & gain install it back; (like PC - all problems seem to go away if U switch off & on the machine)..Now things are working normally in DF posting also..(Please dont ask me what is the connection of the problem with JAVA Classpath - I dont know at all!!!!)
Ravi/Rajaraman: Thanx for Ur interest.. Hopefully problems will not be there for atleast some months time!!

tfm group,
Wonderful search feature!
Takes a while to show the results, but it is worth the wait. (Also, I hope people realize how all the frivolous stuff they write affects the usefulness of such tools - I mean wasting diskspace and slowing down searches, and adding to the clutter)

Please include number for the posts, so that while replying to posts, we can respond to the correct posting. It is better than replying by referring to name.
