Ayiram kodi from KarisakkAttu poovE is very 'ambient' like the little guy's music. I think even the recording is good or IR has got a new synth. I liked this song and vAnam parththa. Looks like IR is back in business.

dear arrfan
I'm happy to remain ignorant and continue to call KSR a super-moron because
1) He has given at the best 10 hits, most of them banking on megastars. by himself, he perhaps gave 2 hits with not-so-hot-stars. In contrast IR has given superhits with total non-entities and moreover, has on the strength of his music alone
managed to convert very pedestrian movies into outstanding hits. At the very conservative estimate, he would've have made about 100 such hits.
2) Any artiste who thinks his commercial success alone gives him a halo is plain stupid if nothing else. Public memory of such people is short, and you just have to see where the erstwhile "commercial hit" directors like him stand today to understand that longevity in any artform ultimately is a measure of one's creative output, not bank balance.
3) From Devraj-Mohan to Bala, IR has seen and worked with innumerous directors over 3 decades. It's a tribute to his genius that he is still the preferred choice for anyone who makes a serious attempt at meaningful cinema. Some click like "sethu", some fail (Guru), but ultimately if one were to watch the movie even if 20 years later, IR can still make an impact on the common audience the strength of his BGM alone. Can you dispute that?
KSR and the likes of him view all creative outputs such as music, camera, editing etc. as secondary to the central purpose of money-making. They achieve success in the short-term, but for most people (I'm talking of common folk here, not distributors and producers who are in it for the quick bucks) knowledgeable of cinema, a Mahendran would anyday count more than SP Muthuraman; or for that matter, I will count as more significant the contribution of a two-film wonder in Rudraiah than in Rama Narayan who's given more than 100 films, and many supposedly 'hits'...
4) The most important fact that qualifies KSR for a super-moron title is this - the interviewer was obviously trying to bait him into some sensational news with that ?. KSR could've answered it neutrally in a dozen different ways, yet he chose to make a stupid personal judgement on IR, knowing fully well that IR would never react to anything like this and let the 'barking dogs...'
If you think I write 'without knowing anything' I'm happy to let you wallow in that luxury of superiority.
Finally, the likes of KSR don't ever have the guts (or the knowledge) to talk about the intrinsic quality of music while insinuating about IR, do they? They know that any reason apart from market-dynamics will be mocked at by their own fraternity..

Suresh,
You say Rudraiya was a 'two film wonder'.
One was 'aval appadithaan'. What was the other? I missed it.
I agree a 100% with your comments.
The last hit KSR had was 'padayappa'. That movie was a joke. The only reason it did any business was because of Rajni.
Now thenaali's only hope is Kamal.
Of course ARR will sell quite a few audio tapes. But he seldom does anything for the movie.

Hi all,
I listened to IR's latest album, 'Kanna Unai Thedugiren". Actually the album has six songs and one repeated by IR. The songs are excellent and it makes one remember IR of his prime days. I rank here the songs.
1. Koil mani kettene is sung by unni krishnan and swarnalatha. This song is very melodious and is a perfet duet. With lilting tune and music one can hear this song again and again.
2. Next comes 'vanji kodi' sung by bavatharini and hariharan. It is again a melody and keenly listen to the flute. Sure to be a chart topper.
3. Konjum kulupaatty rendered by harini and anuradha, it is sort of a family song. It has a bit by IR and is again a real melody. Watch out for the subtle changes in usage of mirudangam and tabla.
4. Oorurangum nerathil by hariharan. I think this should've been more concentrated by IR and made it more catchy. Again opinion may differ, but it is more like "rajaraja cholan naan' type.
5. A dappanguthu, IR style. Nothing much about it.
It is a good buy provided u can give a patient hearing atleast two times. The first two songs may make u instantly like the next two will take two hearings. Enjoy this stuff and write more about this.

I don't think that there is anything wrong in KSRK not liking to work with IR. Well, look at it this way. KSRK worked with IR in "Periya Kudumbam" and at that time, there could have been a problem between them and KSRK would have decided not to work with IR anymore. There has been rumours of IR having ego problems with several directors/producers/actors and there is a chance that they (as well as IR) might have felt insulted. Music has not been the prime aspect of success of KSRK's movies. I think he has every right in deciding not to work with IR anymore.
Also, I can't accept that a movie can run only with good music. Of course, music is a definite asset. But, it alone can't decide the fate of a movie. If that is the case, "Meera" should have been a super hit. Atleast one other aspect should be good. In case of "Chinna thambi" or "Karagaattakkaaran", the songs were great, but the movies also had some comedy (remember, Kaundamani was at his peak that time. In my town, people will laugh just seeing Kaundamani and Senthil in the screen.). Of course, music was the main reason for the success. But, apart from that, the film should have something else.

SM,
More than not working with IR, KSRK deliberately insulted him with that statement in Kumudham and that is what has made so many people anguished.
I know both the movies that KSRK worked with IR (Sakthivel and Periya Kudumbham)had some
great songs and he should not forget the good
work done by IR for his movies and make such
arrogant statements. KSRK's music taste
is well known and he may not require IR's
knowledge for his movies(or rather his movies
don't deserve that rather).
As someone wrote, during the last 1-2 years
only the movies that KSRK made with big stars have
run and the rest have flopped and he is on
the verge of losing market.
Both Chinna Thambi and Karagaathakkaaran ran
mainly because of the music and imagine those
movies without those great songs and the BGM.
