I'm starting a new thread dedicated to Hariharan's versitility as a singer.
He is today ,by far the most wanted singer by the MD's.HIs golden voice got very late recognition after a very long period of 10-15 years.....but the good part is that he is now reaping the fruits of his efforts finally.
All his latest songs are big hits.
Here are a few Hariharan songs {in tamil movies} that I like.
1.Malargaley malargaley...(saraswathi)
2.Oru Mani Adittaal...
3.Telephone mani pol...(desh)
4.Uyireh Uyireh...
5.Manamey thotta chinungi..(shades of mohanam)
6.En Manadhai kollai adittavaley...(hamsadhwani)
7.Vidukadhayaa indha vaazhkai...(Ahirbhairavi)
8.Taj mahaaley...(kaanada)
9.Chandiranai Thottadhu yaar...
10.Ennai thaalatta varuvalo..(Keeravani)
11.Vennilavey Vennilavey....
Tell me more on Hariharan's songs..
Some other songs I like of his are from His album "Colonial Cousins"....
Hariharan has the uncanny ability to bring emotion(bhaavam) into his songs..which is what makes it great to listen to apart from the fact that it is rendered really beautifully, with due respect given to the gamakaas.

Have any of you heard the fantastic song : INDHU MAHAAL SAMUTHIRAME? It's from the film Mannava (the last Prasanth starrer, before Jeans - exactly 1 year old), but doesn't actually appear in the movie.
This song has 2 versions, one by both HARIHARAN and the other by UNNIKRISHNAN. I've forgotten the female singer.
It's an excellent song, you must acquire it. The song has shades of the RAGAM DESH and SAHANA.....

Dear tfm lovers,
HARINI IS NOT HARIHARAN'S SISTER. THIS IS FOR YOUR KIND INFORMATION. I WAS HARINI'S SCHOOLMATE AND SO FAR I HAVE NEVER HEARD ANYONE
SAYING THAT HARIHARAN IS HARINI'S BROTHER. SO DON'T GO ABOUT SPREADING RUMOURS.

Bhaskar: The pleasure is mine.....It's so good to meet others who are interested in finding out ragams of Film songs. It's a passion of mine and sometimes, it's good to be asked, so that I can then listen to songs that I miss. I try and buy every release of cassette available, but due to time constraints, I don't always listen to everything in detail, so, when you ask me about songs, it gives me a good opportunity to listen and analyse particular songs.....
Please keep asking.....

Ennai Thaalatta varuvalo is a very simple song, but Hariharan has added that extra something to it and sung it extremely well.I like the song very much too.

Thanx for the link...
Interesting part from the interview::-)
Q: You have sung for Illayaraja, AR Rahman,Deva and almost
all the music directors. How is your rapport with them?
A: I vibe very well with AR Rahman. In fact, I started my
career in South with him, with Roja and Bombay. He understands me
very well and we have a good tuning.
He gives me a free hand and singing for him is always a
pleasant experience. While recording, there are minimum people,
only four of us — director, lyricist, Rahman and me, and
the peaceful atmosphere makes my work easy. And
Rahman is
the guy who showcased my voice commercially.
For Illayaraja I had sung the song Thalattu in the film
Kadalukku Mariyadai. I usually improvise while singing,
but with Illayaraja there is not much flexibility. But the
song I sung for him was quite melodious.
Deva is open to ideas. I have sung just a few songs for him.
HH bomb vachirukkaru...Periya aaL than..:-))))

Fans of Hariharan may wish to know that in the Indian National Awards announced today (10 May 98), Hariharan has been selected "Best Singer" for the Hindi movie "Border". A much deserved but long overdue award.

Hi,
HariHaran New album titled 'Kathal Vetham' has been released by OMI (Magna sound). It's good. VM wrote the lyrics, but it is much better than his chinna chinna aasai. The recording is awesome.

It seems like Deva came up with another good album. The album is 'priyamudan'.
The song sung by hariharan, 'Aakasavaani Neeya en Rani' is really appealing. 'Mariya Mariya' by vijai and Anu Ratha is a catchy tune.

I would like to add an additional dimension of Hariharan , the way he came to the limelite. His
Ghazals. Despite the fact that his mother, Alamelu
Mani is a famous carnatic singer and he had carnatic music in his blood , he was quick enough to unlearn it and take up Ghazals. It's an extremely arduous effort to shed carnatic and learn Hindustani. yet the maestro did it.
His ghazal " Saakia jaaye kahan " is my favorite.
Others favorites include " mooh dekhne walo ke liye jaam nahin hain" , " raath bhar tanha raha"
etc, etc.
I proudly proclaim that i am Hariharan's #1 fan
and will remain till the end of my life.

Evebthough i am not from india, i do not miss being an ardent fan of the great singer whose power of improvising a simple song or a song that has been sung by him just like that. Some may say that this is because of his carnatic musical background but in my opinion, i say this guy is was destined to sing! From colonial cousins to songs in the cinema, hariharan delivers them with so much passion and perfection. He is my inspiration to sing and it is due to him that i am able to perform in shows cause i perform his songs and some people say that i sing like him but even if i do sound like him at times, i'm only
40% compared to the great maestro himself.Hariharan Rules! yeah!!!!

I was recently very impressed by the way HH has rendered kurukku siruthavaLE in Muthalvan. (Actually the first HH song to have impacted me thus. :-). I cannot discuss the nuances etc, but somehow I felt it was a more studied performance than his earlier ones.
