Shankar-Ehsan-Loy...maybe the only other MD with Bollywood roots also composing for TF....I was listening to their "Dil Chahta Hai"..except for the title track, all the other songs seem to meander around...but they are the only ones around in Bollywood who give a original techno touch to their music apart from ARR.
"Aalavandhaan" is their next big TF release...would like to hear your opinions on this trio.

Bharath
IR's house is in a small street off North Usman Road, a bit further down the ARR Complex towards the Kodambakkam bridge. I stay behind the ARR complex and have travelled down these streets in my TVS Champ and one day ran into Karthik Raja's Red Sports car as it was coming out of the gate....I had to brake and wait...I think YSR was standing outside..my mind was completely on a deadline and I was rushing to work...so it didnt strike me immediately..only after I crossed them did I realise ! Well..nostalgia..sigh !

so is IR's house between ARR complex and Vivek & Co.
I know the place like The bak of my hand. I stayed behind lalitha jewellery though adjacent to saradha vidhyalaya and r.k mission hostel.

Another concept development music in Aaalavandhan, out of 100 unconventional songs 2 songs stand out. ARR the pioneer in this. Good for music trends. we need change, we need fresh breathless of air... all these composers including and since ARR brings to bear upon TFM lovers in general the contribution to everlasting music by even a not so popular a composer as Chandra Bose.... Long Live ex TFM and Let Live new TFM... what else to say.... I am breathless here

hey didnt anybody see ambleen's post? SEL seems genuinely inspired by Jerry Goldsmith's score for the 'Link' (1986) starring Elizabeth Shue and directed by Richard Franklin.
Another coincidence apart from the inspiration - Link is about an eccentric primatologist experimenting with chimpanzees in a remote English coastal house. One of the chimps, Link initially is very friendly but becomes very aggressive and literally has Shue in house arrest, the reason for which is explained in the end.
Does Abhay get to keep Raveena under house arrest kinda situation? If we go by the promos, I suppose so (based ona shot where Abhay takes a knife-throw at Raveena which is aimed to stop her from getting out of the room!).
One more global inspiration by Kamal after the scores of movies he has already been inspired. Surprisingly SEL also have gone into the inspiration loop assuming that not many people would find the Jerry Goldsmith link 'cos that was way back in 1986!
Dont forget to listen to the Kamal version from Raaga (the one with Kamal and Nandhini - listen to the part after Kamal's ramblings and where the actual music starts) and Jerry's score for the link as mentioned by ambleen earlier (after the initial eerie rhythms end and the music starts)...here's the link again!

Decent album...
Though I do think that they got some inspiration for "Kadavul Paadhi" from "Be Prepared" the Lion King song... Though some great singing effort on Kamal's part. And some amazing singing effort on Shankar's part in the title song. Other than that the songs sound different from the norm but average...

I have a listened to this album twice now.
*Hype* is the key word here. Sparring africa and SM song others are pedestrian.
Kamal has to learn from hey ram, do not over hype as it can affect adversely the gains of the movie.
To equate SEL to IR and ARR is ludicrous. I do not have a problem with Kamal-the actor, however I do not trust Kamal-The marketing agent.
IMO, Majnu is a more decent effort than Alavandhan.

most hyped music. except for the african mumbo jumbo (which transends to arabian music in the end) the rest are mediocre. Narshimha and majnu are much better. these are my opinions

well, 3 good songs, 2 poems, and 1 below average song... that sums up aalavandaan... the theme music is simply superb-the best in recent times according to me... unnazhagukku is nice listening to and africa kattupuli has some interesting sounds thrown in esp in the interludes. the other kamal song siri siri tests my patience. i wonder if this was kamal's idea!-how boring?

after listening to the album aalavandhan almost 3 or 4 times...i will say its a good fresh music for tamil. i cannot say creativity is there in the composition. esp the title song is a copy of madonna's latest album "MUSIC"'s title song Music itself. atleast the style is copied. the song kadavul paathi's music score is done in arabic or lebanese style. but its going to be a real commercial hit. no doubt.

Alavandhan sounds different. May be, I was a little predisposed not to dismiss Shankar & Co. so soon. Will comment after further listening.
But, a similar effort from ARR would have invited widespread criticism... "ARR is going down..."

I think the initial reviews to Aalavanthaan/ Abhay has been pathetic. Look at the latest Kumudam's review and Rediff's review! Wonder what those 200,000 people think now that they got the cassetes in the first 8 hours of its release! :-)

Hi guys nice to read all the responses here my name is Ehsaan and I am Shankar and Loy's partner. You have to understand that alavandhan doesnt really adhere to the typical tamil or hindi film soundtrack with 3 love songs and a few item songs. For that reason the film is not your typical film either. It is an intense action film even fitting in these songs has been difficult as the film can even do without songs.
. I gues this doenst fit into the cliched film soundtrack as the film is not your regular kind of film with all the singing dancing etc.
It's more cinematic music with tunes like Kadavul Paadhi being more like a narrative of Abhay's character. The title song Abhay is a background song / score for an intense car chase. So in reality we have composed songs which go with an action film as opposed to doing so called ' item ' songs where the hero goes to a nightclub and falls in love with a girl or suddenly gets ' beamed ' to Switzerland for a ballad. I guess all of you have to finally watch the film to see how the music fits in.Teh song Siri is very funny when u watch KamalHassan performing all his pranks on screen.Compsong music for a film is interpretting the directors vision and in this case alsi Kamalsirs vision. We do not want to be compared to Illyaraja or To ARR 2 musicians for whome we have the utmost repsect. I'd say look at the soundtrack for the genre of film it has been composed for.If you hear a Hinid soundtrack of ours for a film called Shool it is very much in the same cinematic vein where a film has to have the minimum of pure entertainer songs to do justice to the script and the screenplay.
Thanks anyway it is good to hear criticism of your work but eventually when we do a score which has all the ingredients like love songs etc i guess you will see another side of us.
Take care
Regards
Ehsaan
