Balachander: In present day mainstream productions music has taken away the credibility of cinema and the genuineness of the medium. Is music an inevitable evil in Indian cinema? Who is responsible for the extreme use and abuse of music?

This was KB s poser to Mani Ratnam -"THE HINDU"

Yes,KB " The Father of Drama in Indian cinema",the man who always needed quality composers like MSV IR ARR to sell his "Stage Dramas on Screen".

Now i understand what SENILITY means.Does Old age give one, a licence to imbecile utterances?

The man should have name his next venture as "Alpam" instead of "Album"

  Take Nizhal Nijamagirathu for instance..
  
  Without the song "Ilkkanam Marutho" he would have found it difficult to move the story further.That song marks the transformation in the characters.
  
  Oh!I forgot....!
  
  Without a song he would have used a blackboard with "Indhu Marivittal! Sanjeevi Purinthukondan!

  If at all you feel that KB should not have made that remark, just brush it off as a off-the-cuff, irrelevant remark.
  
  Your hurtful remarks reflect the hurt you feel.
  But please, give the man his dues. He has given some of the best movies in Tamil. As I said earlier, he is an institution.

  I remember during 80's IR introduced VSN and asked the directors to give him chance as an MD. Balachander is the first one to give chance for VSN. After couple of movies Balachander went to IR for Sindhu Bairavi. Sindhu Bairavi was a musical hit and it was the first time Balachander tasted success after a long time. Puthu Puthu Arthangal was the last hit he came up with. Balachander even went to the lmit showing IRs photo in the movie since its used to be the norm in 90s in order to make the movie saleable. Due to hectic schedules IR was unable to finish BGM to get the movie ready for Diwali. Thats when their ego clashed and they went on their separate ways. Puthu Puthu Arthangal was a hit due to IRs music and his presence in the movie.
  
  IR made a mediocre movie to be a big hit with his music that no other MDs including ARR can do now a days. ARR gave musical gala for Duet but the movie was a big flop.

  I think, for PP interview, he specifically mentioned that, "Music is important for his movies". And, there are several instances where he openly praised IR, ARR for their work in his films and as well as the reason for placing those songs.
