First of all I must express my joy as an IR fan.To read comments on his work by like minded individuals is reassuring. He remains a legend and a composer who is never afraid of experimenting with new techniques. His music will live on!
I would like to contribute to this discussion by mentioning a few songs with interesting base work.
Sandhana Marbile Kunkumam Seerthathe.
Kaathal Oviyam Paadum Kaviyam.
Aritharathe Pusi Kolla Asai.
I would like to at the same time start of a new topic for discussion.Have all of you noticed that Raja Sir has deviated from his definitive style and has used fast moving run of the mill beats for his songs. This was espeacially evident in Kathallukku Mariyadhai. The songs Oru Pattampoochi,Yennai Thalatta Varuvala and Ananda Kuyilin Paatu had good tunes but unsuitable beats. He could have used unique percussion pieces
but opted for something quite ordinary.
Raja sir should remain original. He should reintroduce a more unplugged bass pieces for his works. The rawness of his drum work(Mandram vantha thendralluku) and his unique timing of bass work(Thendral Yennai Mutham Ittathu) should be revisited to escape from the bane of synthesizer saturated cine tunes.
I am a IR fan through and through.I believe a true fan should provide constructive criticism.I do not for one moment criticise the maestro.I am basically saying that Raja sir should bring about another turning point in cinematic score.
I hope I receive some feedback on this.
P.S When are they going to have the good sense to release Raja sir's Symphony No1.I has been a long wait since 1993.

Of all the early bass scores of Raja, I liked the ones for Guru very much. Ever heard the song `Endhan kannil ezhulahangal'? Just before SJ starts like....`Rojaaa malrndhadhu...' there's a beautiful piece of bass guitar which used to make my hair raise....
Through out that song as well as in `Perai chollava' & `Adungal..paadungal', the bass scores (as per my limited understanding) are very good!

Sri Ganesh, I am also irked by IR's use of synthesizers. Very badly to the point of getting pissed off. But he is still doing the bass (a
Baroque feature). Its the beats and the shorter melodies that is bothering me. I wish I could quit programming and become his sound
engineer !!! (With $10000 you could get better recording gear than what he is using. That is a pittance for him. Just go to Singapore you can
get all the stuff. Karthik Raja is messing up his dads work, I think)

Many yesteryear raja songs have to be listened in CDs inorder for us to find out that 'missing' bass guitar. 'uravenum puthiya vaanil' is another song.

How about the recent IR song from Kathalukku Mariyaadhai "Yennai Thaalaatta Varuvaalo"..It has some fantastic bass guitar. Also one other old one I can remember is "Darling Darlind" from Priya...(ofcourse it had similarities to Boney M 's Sunny Sunny!!)

Ramani:
Has anyone ever asked IR why "Darling, Darling" sounded similar to "Sunny" ? I don't know if you are aware, but sometime back there was a long (2-yr long !!!) argument about IR's copied songs and the list ended with a grand total of about 6-7 songs :-) I am just curious to find out why a person like IR would copy even one song when he has fresh ideas for another 1000 !

Yenakku oru chinna sandegam. Are there any other bass guitarists in newtfmpage ? Everytime this thread is revived (or prevented from going into the archives) by someone, I feel an obligation to write something with the limited knowledge that I have. Surely, there are others who have explored this wonderful instrument better. Please do come out with some technical details - ungalukku theriyalanalum pakkathula yarayavadhu kaettu sollunga :-) illa, yenna pola book-a paarthavadhu sollunga ! Atleast web-links kodunga - naangale poy padichikkarom ! Thanks !
