MSK: I've got the casstte frm HMV House Bangalore. Im not sure whthr its available in usa. But the "yuk" part of the casstte is tht it contains 'Rexona' advt between some songs! its a bad trend, like, saapptla kal varra maathiri ;(.

Further on KK:
aalaana naal muthalaa by pushpavanamkuppusamy & sowmya
A typical folk song and in total contrast to thakdhom song. When I listened for the first time, naturally I felt like dancing a dappankuththu. Both PK and Sowmya had sung really well.
Hei..Konjipesu Kobam enna Kannamma...An excellent melody by Raaja & Sujatha. The song goes something like the hero convincing the angry heroine.

After reading the material on Kadhal Kavidhai here,
I bought its audio cassette and listened to it
once yesterday. I usually look for good melodious
tunes. But in my first listening I came out very
unimpressed with the tunes in KK! In comparison
I want to mention that in the recent months songs
such as EdhO oru paattu en kaadhil kEtkum
sung by Sujatha in Unnidaththil Ennai Koduththen
had made immediate impression on first hearing.
But none of the KK songs made any impact! I have
to listen to these songs a few more times to see
if they make an imprint on my mind. The tunes that
IR gave in movies such as Poonthottam were excellent,
but not those in KK, IMHO.
(pee soo: I thought the rexona tune was the best
on side A. :-)))

Ragapriyan: thanx for expressing ur thoughts boldly. Even I was very disappointed with the album. Just bcos the US people were very curious, I gave some comments for possibly good songs. If u ask for my personal comments: [Forgive me IR fans, SPM]
*) I sincerely doubt whether this album is really by IR. It sounds very karthik raja-ish. The whole album sounds like that. It lacks the magic touch of IR.
*) Songs doesnt seem to be having soul in it. vara-vara'nnu mess-la pOdra upmaa maathiri irukku.
*) originality/creativity ellaam pEsarathukku naallaath thaan irukku. but, frankly, over the past few years except very few albums IR failed to satisfy me with his songs.
I still love to hear pre-1988 IR. Where is he? Where are those melodious innovations? Where are those soul stirring compositions?
IR is capable, I've no doubt. But once upon time, he doesnt care abt the movie story. He was giving all of us great numbers. Im still longing and still searching tht IR in his recent album. But he is no where to be seen. Is tht IR still present OR lost in the race? God knows.
DISCLAIMER AGAIN: Its my very personal opinion and Im not responsible, if ur opinions/feelings or wht so ever is hurt/affected.

Ragapriyan,
I beg to differ.
I agree ,I 'm a HCIRF (F for fanatic),IMO, KK is far better than MVU in terms of tunes and sound quality.
nee urangum kovilil has a mesmerising tune and so is alai meedhu. I certainly won't compare it with GURU but it's far better than what we got in MVU, DG & poonthottam.
Ofcourse, beatsy numbers like thak dhom are there which sound more KR ish.
ALL DFers,
If u like thenral vandhu theendum bodhu, u'll certainly like "nee urangum koyilil ..." (diana..diana)
If u find "otha ruva thArEn" interesting surely u'll like "ALAna nAl mudhalA"
if "nAL dhorum endhan kaNNil"(devadai) fascinated U , u'll love alai meedhu.
If u enjoy feet tapping tunes, then thak dhom is for U (i personally didn't like the song as it didn't have raja's touch).

hi,
Poochchudaa., marupadiyum intha sandai aarampichchaachchu !
I don't kno why every IR album gets 2 type of opinions. somebody says 'this is great & IR simply has done it ! ' or something & then the other group comes with comments like 'is this an album by IR ??, this is 3rd or 4th class., rubbish, trash, where is that OLD IR ??' etc. etc.,

NagasubramaniaN, (How can I shorten it?!)
Probably people do not want to accept it as good just because it is from IR. Had they advertised the MD as Sirpi/Deva etc, with the same songs, they might have accepted it as good, melodious etc.
Ragapriyan, Neenga sonna EdhO oru pAttu.. enakku oru impression-m tharala. Instead it reminded lot of old songs.
What is that KR-ish? Had KR been known long back, even the Anjali songs would have been branded as KR-ish.
Many people say, IR should give different music. But, the same when it comes out, even if it is really good, immediately branding it with other -ish...
I feel, instead of considering the Music alone, IR songs have come to the level personal acceptance of the MD himself. This differs to individual to individual.
Just before listnening to KK, I listened to Gayathri (1977) - vAzhvE mAyamA.. (HMV has released a new cassette.)sung by Sujatha. After this I listened the duet in KK, the same sujatha with IR. 21 years! I really didn't see any difference in the quality, pleasure, style except some subtle difference in Sujatha's voice.
And finally, the inevitable, (probably the intended meaning of the acronym itself has got diluted due to repeated usage), all these are IMHO.

ram,
>>Had they advertised the MD as Sirpi/Deva etc, with the same songs,
they might have accepted it as good, melodious etc.<<
I donno whether u told this in a lighter vein or not, the fact is that people (at least me) set some standard for every MD and they expect their songs to meet their level of expectation. They view diff MD with diff mindset.
For instance nobody sees rajni movies with serious mindset (no offense meant, rajni fans),they just go and enjoy it. If they started seeing logic in rajni movies ,well, he'd 've been made to quit acting well before 86.
When people see ,say, kamal or sivaji movies they see with some seriousness, some technical pts ,story line etc.
similarly when I (an IR fan)listen to songs of ARR/deva/sirpi I have some expectation and they cater me more than what I had expected from them (i don't expect much from them, to put it straight),where as the case with raja is not the same......When I lsitened to YM , i kept that as the benchmark and when i listened to GURU i made it BM and it goes on.
So i expect him to give better stuff (as i feel he's capable of doing that which i dont expect from others).KK can't be compared with GURU.
So, had KK been from sirpi or even KR, i'd 've enjoyed it MORE (I'm enjoying it now ,anyway).

Hi guys,
Opinions always differ, After reading the review of 'ponnu VeettuKaran' I was very disappointed and didn't buy that album for long time, but suddenly I thought let me give a try with the belief on IR, I am very happy today havig bought the album. It is worth buying, you won't believe I liked ALL THE SONGS. Same was the case with SENTHOORAM. The song 'iniya malargall' from POONTHOTTAM, some one has mentioned it as ordinary song but to me IT IS REALLY GREAT. So guys I definitely believe IR WOULD HAVE DONE HIS MAGIC in KK and for others also I sincerly advice judge yourself instead of getting multiple opinions and getting confused.

VazhvaE mayama from Gayathri is by Sasirekha. You must have meant 'kalaipaniyil aadum malargaL' from the same movie. Excellent song. Sujatha has sung another song for IR around the same time; kadhal oviyum kandEn (kavikkuyil).

guys, we should not let this argument continue. we ask for reviews of the album and should be able to digest someone reviewing that the album is not good. if not, then no reviews should be posted here. just the information of the songs and who sang it. come on guys, when someone says the album is not good, leave it as personal opinion and don't try to fight all the time. reviews can be harsh at times and we should take them at face value. why bring all this much talked about and stale issues to this thread also!

Yes! Let's not feel bad when someone posts a negative review of an album. taste and expectations, way of expressing views always differ..Take it easy..
It would be great if someone can point to audio samples on the net.. so all of us can listen and judge for ourselves before we go buy this album.
thanks

Mahendran,
I am an all time fan of Maestro IR. Whenever I call my friends back home and ask them about IR's latest albums, particularly KK, all they have to say is that the albums are not so famous among the cassette dealers and buyers. Is it true? Anyone from Coimbatore could find these cassettes at the stores there??? In fact on my last visit to India, I had searched each and every cassette shop in Coimbatore to get a cassette of GURU (Mal. movie). Believe me...I could not get one. So I am wondering whether the claims at TFM page on IR's cassette sales are exaggerated?
