IR VS ARR - On the best use of Instruments, Singers

I wonder how IR excels in using the Instruments and sounds that are so apt and appropriate for
the song situation. Even when it comes to the choice of singers IR excels in selecting the best one (including himself ???). Some of the examples of his most approprate selection of singers are

1. SPB - for songs like Vaigarail Vaigai karaiyil
2. KJY - Ammaenrzhaikatha Uyirilleye, All songs in Sindhu Bairavi
3. JeyaChandran - Raasathi onna Kannatha..
4. Malaysia Vasudevan - Oru Thangarathathil, Aaagayaganhai, Kovil Mani Ossai,,,etc.
5. Chitra - Paaddariyeen...
6. SJ - Countless no. of songs

Coming to the other side of TFM, i.e, ARR, he has created some new sounds and music patterns, hatsoff to him. But he still lacks the class of IR
when it comes to the right choice of Instruments for a song, the choice of Tune, use of singers.
For e.g, he has a tendency to choose a new singer for every other movie or song. As a result, there are many crappy singers now dominating very good and established singers like SPB, KJY, Jeyachandran (hardly hear him off late). Further, ARR in the name of freedom to singers has spoilt many a songs which has Shruthi Bedam, Mistake in Tallam and Tamizh kollai.

  SJ, SPB and Jeyachandran are not IR's find. But they are definetly made the best use by IR. Thats what I meant by my earlier staement. Sorry for the miscommunication.

  Its sad to note some DFers placing KJY and udit in the same league as far as tamil-pronouncitation is concerned. IMO, between srudhi-kolai and tamil-kolai, I can tolerate tamil-kolai to some extent(music is beyond languages, again IMO), but not srudhi-kolai. There are many carnatic musicians, who do "telugu-kolai", changes words in famous kritis and sing them.. but they sing it to perfection that the language-errors dont become an issue.!!

  Dorai, if your objective is ARR-bashing, we have threads for it. Why dont you comment upon IR's choice of singers for songs he has sung himself and his daughter?? Why dont you make room for some constructive discussion here??????

  Dorai, please listen to Sowkiyamma from Sangamam by Nityasri. I think its a good number. And I'm really surprised to find that you havent found any impressive work by Harini. Her debut was nila kaigiradhu.. and she has good numbers like "hello mr.edhir katchi", "manam virumbidhu unnai" and the recent "suthi suthi vandeega" to her credit.
  
  There are threads on UK where you'll find in-depth, constructive discussions on his songs which many other DFers have found impressive.

  The theme of this thread is on choice of appropriate singers, I dont think its inappropriate to discuss IR's choice of his own voice or his daughter in his voice. When we even dicuss issues like the "inappropriate" choice of Arvind Swamy for the Iruvar "dialogues", why should I "stay away" from talking about choice of Bhavadharini/IR for IR songs? The tone in your postings suggest a distinct IR-bias and anti-ARR stance. I'd appreciate if we take a more objective view and discuss the theme of this thread with this perspective!

  I can accept that Nithayshree did a great job in Kannodu Kaanbathellam.... But not in Sowkiyama. First of all I do not like her singing in high pitch at all.
  
  About Harini, "Mannam Virumbuthe" is a good number. I am not too impressed with Hello Mr Ethirkatchi or Suthi Suthi. She came good on "Telphone Manni PoOl..'. But she is sporadic too like UnniK. See for e.g, Chitra she won her national award in her 5th movie for Paddariyen...
  I am not saying that if somebody did not win a National Award then he/she is not good. But I don't see the class of Chitra or SJ in Harini or Nithyashree, Same is the case for UnniK he is not the class of KJY or SPB.
  
  To all ARR fans,
  IR never used Bhava to the best. This is a voluntary declaration. Hope this will settle the issue.

  "IR never used Bhava to the best." This would suggest that Bhava has lot of hidden/undiscovered talents which you/others have uncovered but IR has not!! Are you sure? My personal opinion is that Bhava's talents lie in getting hot and fresh 'sukku, miLagu and jeeragam pOtta paal' at moments notice for the established and talented artists. And you are right! IR has not capitalized this talent of hers:-)

  Well what can I say. Bhava is only below your beloved Nithyashree. I am not a MD to undiscover her talents.
  
  Every one is talented in some way better than others. Even there may be some hidden/undiscovered
  talents in you. Please try to explore them first before talking about IR's explorations.

  May I request you to refrain from personalised attacks?? The use of phrases like "your beloved nityasree" is totally uncalled for. DFers here maintain certain dignity and I'd appreciate if you could also stick to the norms!!

  Nithyasri is a relatively new comer to playback singing as compared to SJ/Chitra. Compared to them, even harini is new. So, obviously they cant be placed in the same league as SJ/Chitra. And not all singers can win awards in early phases of career. Going by your own standard of awards, UK won an award for his Ennavale song. This was his very first venture into film music singing!!
  
  Anyway, we are discussing about appropriateness of singers for songs here. And for the Iruvar song - hello mr.edhir katchi, I think harini's voice just suited the mood of the song. Same is the case with Nityasri's Minsaara kanna. yes, she screamed in high pitch, but, it brought out the character of ramkya krishnan in padaiappa well. Ditto is the case with Sowkiyama in sangamam.
  
  Why just stop with discussing nityasree and harini?ARR used anupama in 'konjum nilavu - chandralekha' and Carolene in 'Thee thee thithikkum thee' in Thiruda thiruda, minmini in 'Chinna Chinna Aasai' in Roja. These were not-so-well-known voices, but the voices were all appropriate chocies. ARR used SPB for a high-pitched song like "thanga thaamarai magale', which would have otherwise gone to HH (going by ARR's usual choices). Choice of Unni Menon in minsara kanavu song was also very appropriate.
  
  I'm not including specific set of IR's choices as you have already come up with an impressive list :).

  Regarding refrain from personal attacks, you got to convey that to the originator of that culture.

  Knowledge of English is NOT a prerequisite to the forum, but proper interpretation of English should not be considered an impediment. I guess Dorai is upset with me about my disagreements with his view that ARR makes "Mistakes in Tallam."

  I would like to assert that one shouldn't critisise singers because of the Music Director's choice or vice-versa.And..with respect to new singers replacing the old, it should be welcome with an open mind.One cannot expect a class in the debutante and compare him/her to the established one.The old singers still enjoy a good amount of fame and reputation.Take for examples "Nenjinile.." (from"Uyire") and "Margazhi Thingal.."(from Sangamam).These are feathers in the cap of S.J who is still enthralling the audience with her captivating voice.I would like to summarise by stating: enjoy the old..welcome the new.

  I saw some of the 'Musical Geniuses' Called by themselves, attacking on tamil pronounciation of KJY. I will ask a simple question. This musical geniuses don't know how to read tamil and talk tamil properly. and they are criticising on KJY the greatest singer in the world,by sitting and tapping on key board. nonsense.
