Best Movies of Illayaraja

I have seen losts of threads on illayaraja and on his best songs etc. i could not find a thread on his best movies. for someone who has just started listening to IR information about his best movies would be far helpful than on his best songs. given a list of his best movies one can more easily start collecting illayaraja's songs. If people could list their top 10 favourite movies of IR others will get a fair idea of his greatest works.

  Most of the films before around 81-82 are outstanding and astounding. After that most of them are dabba. After AlaigaL Oyvadhillai, Raaja Paarvai...period, I stopped listening to him since he went into a "currency minting mode"

  Well in telugu lots of movies are there....which are class from A to Z in all ways....
  ABHINANDHANA,

  LADIES TAILOR,
  GEETANJALI,
  SAAGARA SANGAMAM,
  JAGADEKA VEERUDU ATHILOKA SUNDHARI,

  Rajini movies generally have good BGM (because of his style) where as Kamal movies have good songs(because of kadhal mannan ).....
  
  But some of memorable Rajini movies that have melodious songs would be
  
  1. 6 to 60 varai (kanmaniye song is the greatest)

  3. Thanikkattu raaja
  4. Netrikkan
  5. Engeyo ketta kural
  6. Padikathavan
  7. Panakkaran
  8. Guru Sishyan
  9. Raajadhi raaja(IR's bro was the producer)
  10. Murattu kalai
  11. Kaali (vaazhu mattum)
  12. Kazhugu(IR sings for Rajini)

  14. Adutha vaarisu (super songs - kaaviriye, pesa koodathu, aasai nooruvagai, vaazhga raani, ....)

  That was a good song - It also had singari gari gari gari song..... But somehow the film just fizzled out and so did the songs :)))

  1. Kai kodukkum kai - "thaazham poove vaasam veesu", "kannukulle yaaro"
  2. Maapillai (enna thaan sugamo is a classic duet , maanin vizhi is a fantastic beatsy duet
  3. Buvana oru ? - unforgettable melodies "poonthendrale", "vizhiyile malarndhadhu"
  4.Mullum malarum - Mahendran-Rajini-IR-Shoba rarest combination with "adi penne", "sentaazhampoovil"
  Kupps and vem, my pick from Adhisayapiravi is "illa nenjam" (SJ-MV duet) with grandiose Western orchestration which befits a rajini movie hype.

  One great film I missed was AVM's Nallavanukku nallavan which had Unnai thane and muthadudhe songs.....
  This film ran for more than 200 days and was a super duper musical hit.

  thanks guys, that was really helpful. i have heard most of illai's classics in telugu; but in tamil he has so many movies, it is difficult to keep count.
  
  nevertheless i hope you have heard his telugu works which are also quite good (don't want you to miss out on some of illai's classics).
  his greatest works in telugu are -
  anveshana,
  sitara and
  abhinandana in that order. (in my opinion)
  you MUST hear these if nothing else.
