IR's new albums!

  Isaipriya - thanks for the review.
  
  I wish IR avoids songs which sound mediocre / like old songs atleast in the future albums. Every one of his song should bear his authentic melody stamp + fantastic orchestration.
  
  One more disappointment (for me) is that IR has not sung even one song. I like his voice / 'Bhaavam'
  
  How is the recording / mixing quality in Friends ?

  Sorry if I have hurt any fans of IR whose mother tongue is not tamil or did not have an opportunity to learn/read tamil. Still, I expect people to read my post carefully. There's a smiley that has been missed. I try not to shoot from the hip. My understanding of tamizh paRRu of IR is from the Hey Ram. I interpreted his self-critical remarks as a way of encouraging others to speak/learn their mother tongue, without pontificating.
  Yes, I am more than aware of the language of his music. (I believe in the theory, carnatic music arose from the people of India, mostly from South India. Even the so called folk music is nothing but carnatic music. We can continue in the forum hub if we want).
  BTW, re: tabla. I think this instrument enjoys the same importance in certain kinds of IR songs as drums in rock music. Some may think I am defending IR :) but seriously this is my theory.

  Since G.Kuppuswamy and Isaipriya have already given their reviews on Friends, I don't wanna repeat them. But here are my short views,
  
  * Nice entertaining album on a whole.
  * I was in India when this album got released. Good publicity by the audio company and even album cover looked impressing. When I was speaking to the shop guy, he said, this album is the highest seller.
  * Totally 7 songs.....Four lovely songs and the rest OK.
  * "Thendralukku".....my pick of the album and next comes " Manjal poosum".
  * The way IR has made Devan is just amazing. He's not allowed him to kill Tamizh, the way he(Devan) did in all his previous renderations.
  
  Finally, the album is definitely worth a buy.

  Friends - a Layman's view (;-)
  
  Vijay gives intro to each song., But sadly, He is just talking like a school kid., No serious varNanais, comments about the songs., Nothing you would expect from a thokuppurai. :-(
  
  However there was a good vasanam, 'uNmai solla mattum eppavum thayangak kuudaathu., Appadi uNmai solli, athaala entha kashtam vanthaalum, athai thaangikkaRa sakthiyai kadavuL namakku koduppaar' - You should see the way vijay speaks these words., Siripputhaan varuthu. :-)
  
  Now about the songs.,
  
  1. ThenDRalukku - Hariharan, Bhavadharini
  
  My pick of the album., Both Hariharan and Bhava have done very good job and justice to the lyrics and tune. Catchy tune and good lyrics from pazhani bharathi - eventhough he repeats his own words in many places - Example : 'Neeyaa illai naanaa nenchai muthal muthal izanthathu yaar., unnil ennaik kaNdeen, nammai iraNdena pirippathu yaar.,'
  I feel Hariharan is doing some change in his voice depending on the hero (or IR is doing it ?)., Particularly in this song, I could imagine Vijay in many places. Good effort by HH.
  
  2. Rukku Rukku - Vijay Yesudoss, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Sowmya
  
  Tune is Good - IRish., But the song is pretty ordinary going by the TFM standards for these YOUTHish songs. Lot of English and Hindhi words in PB's lyrics., Thappith thavaRi avar ezuthina thamizh words-aiyum Yuvan shankar Raja kolai paNNittaar., moththaththil, Thamizhp paattu keetta uNarvee illai.
  Vijay Yesudoss is a very good choice for this song., His voice reminds me actor Vijay's voice in many places., Actually I thought the song is sung by Vijay, Yesudoss :-) Antha aLavu similarities.
  I really donno why they put this song in both the sides ! As isaipriya pointed out, this may be their Key :-)
  
  3. Kuyilukku - S.P.Balasubramanian, Hariharan, Shankar Mahadevan
  
  SPB., Hariharan., Shankar Mahadevan - I never imagined I will listen to all three in one song. :-)
  Song is great to listen as you can feel the real IR in many places of this song., Good tune and Very good effort for lyrics., Full songum 'Natpukku mariyaathai'thaan. Shankar mahadevan konjcham adakkiyee vaasikkiRaar.
  Tune slightly reminds me 'PoongaaTRu' song from 'Nilavee Mugam Kaattu'., Even the lyrics. Same situation., same MD., same Lyricst., Same singer .. that may be the reason.
  
  4. Manjal Poosum - Sujatha, Devan
  
  No.2 in my rank list.
  Tune is slow and melodious., But fast beats use paNNiyirukkaar IR., Combo has worked-out well. kuRipapa when Sujatha sings 'Kaathal varuga varuga., IvaL naaNam oziga oziga' ... No words to describe. PB deserves a mention here for his choice of words.
  Already I wrote about Sujatha's work., She is simply dominating the whole song. 'Effortless shot'nnu cricketla solvaanga., antha maathiri !
  I agree to swami 101% talking about Devan. Keeping his past performance (??) in mind('la'., 'La' and 'Zha' viththiyaasam theriyaatha uchcharippu :-), I thought Devan will be a bad choice for an IR song. But No mistakes this time. Sruthi suththamaa, Mozhi suththamaa padiyirukkaar.
  
  5. AaaNkaLooda - Hariharan, Sujatha
  
  Situation based song (Poottip paattu) set in Panjabi style. Song is good., But not enough to create any impact. Atleast Lyrics could have saved the song., But athuvum periya sothappal (Yappaa., yappaa., yappaa., pompaLainga neenga veththu dabbaa ... Entha kaalaththilee irukkeenga PB sir ?).
  
  6. PoongaaTRe - Hariharan
  
  4th song for HH in this album. :-)
  As per Vijay's varNanai, this song is supposed to be sung by the Hero who got affected 'coz he told a truth.
  IR is very much known for his songs like this., So no need to mention that the Tune is opt for the situation. But the surprise is with HH., Hariharanin kuralil therikiRa sogam nijamaagavee manathai ulukkukiRathu. He has really made this song soulful. IMO, His best song in recent.
  
  7. Vaanam - S.P.Balasubramanian, Vijay Yesudoss, Arunmozhi
  
  It is better if I skip writing about this song. When I saw SPB's name in the cover., i thought atleast SOMETHING will be there in the song., Total disappointment for me. :-(
  
  Overall Comments.,
  
  Not the BEST effort By IR., But IR fans will like the album., For others also., It is defenitely a worthbuy.
  
  After series of average lyrics for average movies., Pazhani Bharathi had a very nice oppurtunity writing for this movie ., But he hasn't utilised it to full extend.
  
  Cassette cover really surprises me., IR muzu uruvap padam poottirukkaanga., :-)
  
  Vazakkampola., All IMHO !

  Anf for all those who have been cribbing about the quality of recording in IR's music, please hear the music of "Friends". It is really good.
  
  BTW, I did hear that IR will be composing the musis for a forthcoming home production of Kamalhassan. The movie apparently has Kamal, Mohanlal and Simran in the cast. Mouli is the director.

  it is IR with his most uninspired effort yet.
  
  Instead if u are not too much particular about language, u can listen to this nice mallu song from one of IRs latest albums Kochu Mochu santhoshangal
