I sent the following message to be added as a permanent topic. Should that fail how about it as a temporary topic?
Hi guys,
I recently discovered this page and have been contributing extensively ever since. How about a permanent thread for discussing famous analogies: metaphors, similies, expressions, ironies, etc. in Tamil songs? For example: this would be a thread where I will share my favorite analogy for a smile, "Kaiyalavu Pazhutha Maathulai, Paalil
Neyalavu Padarntha Punnagai" from "Vizhiyilae Malarnthathu" written by Panchu Arunachalam.
As great as the discussion topics are in this site, I feel lyrics and song writers should get more attention.
A fan forever,
Udhaya

Sathya Keerthi the song you have indicated is:
"pAlenRu sonnAlum pzham enRu sonnAlum
yEn enRu thEn vAdumE"
by Kannadsan in Sivantha Man(Correct?) I have already posted it.
Regarding Poothirukkum vizhiyeduthu it is in Kalyana Mandapam where the MD is T.Pathman.
Regards.

Manisekaran:
Yes you are right about the Sivandha Man song.
Yes, pooththirukkum is probably from
Kalyana Mandapam. This movie came in the middle
sixties, I think. Who is this Pathman? Did
he score music for any other movie?
I have asked some questions in the MKTB, Anyone
and Raga Maligai in TFM threads. I request
your help in answering those questions. Also,
do you know who the MD is for the movie, Dheiva
Balam, which was released in 1959? Who were the
actors?

Sathya Keerthi:
Not much is known of T.Pathman. To the best of my knowledge he has composed for only 2 Tamil films. They are Kalyana Mandapam and Kannadi Maligai.
Kalyana Mandapam came in 1962, and the lyricist was Kaignar Mudiyarasu.
The MD for Deiva Balam is Asvathama. The hero of the movie is K.Balaji.Portion of the film is in Geva colour, especially the song "Nilavathu thavaRi PeNNAi mARi" by PBS and SJ. I saw the movie before the school going age, and so my memory does not retain everything I saw then.
I am sorry I do not know what you mean by MKTB.
Good night/morning.

Friends, we have seen some amazing lyrics discussed in this thread well here is my favorite living TFM songwriter.
If this guy became a full-time songwriter, he will easily blow the Vairamuthus and Palani Bharathis away.
The song is "paadip parandha kili" sung by SPB.
The writer is R.V. Udhayakumaar who unfortunately writes only for the movies he directs.
paadip parandha kili
paadha marandhadhadi poomaanae
aaththaadi thannalae kooththaadi ninraenae
kaetkaadha metteduththu vaaraen naanae
(paadip parandha)
solleduththu vandha kili nenjeduththup poanadhadi
nellarukkum soalayonnu sellarichchip poanadhadi
kanda kanavu adhu kaannaadhaachchu
kannumuzhichchaa adhu vaaraadhu
vatta nelavu adhu maelae poachchu
kattiyizhuththaa adhu vaaraadhu
saedhaaram senjavaru yaaru yaaru
(paadip parandha)
oththayadip paadhaiyila niththamoru gaanamadi
andha vazhi poagayila kaalu rendum oonamadi
kalliladichchaa adhu kaayam aarum
solliladichchaa adhu aaraadhu
panju vedichchaa adhu noolaappoagum
nenju vedichchaa adhu thaangaadhu
veenaasa thandhavaru yaaru yaaru
(paadip parandha)
Bharathiyin, "Nallathor Veenai Seithu Athai Nalam Keda Puzhuthiyil Erivathundo", enum Paerizhappai eedukaattum varigalukkinayaga ninaikkeraen, "nellarukkum soalayonnu sellarichchip poanadhadi" enum varigalai.
Oru paamaranin aelimaiyayum avan thuyarathin thooymayayum inthap paadalin
"vatta nelavu adhu maelae poachchu
kattiyizhuththaa adhu vaaraadhu
saedhaaram senjavaru yaaru yaaru"
ennum varigal thathroobamaga sitharikkindrana.
In the same movie, the same singer and songwriter give us these great lines. The envious moon retreats after seeing her gorgeous face, but what an elegant folksy way to say it:
poonaathu mogam paarththu vennilaa naana
thaalaama thadampaaththu vandavazhi poaga
. . .
vannamaa vaanavillil nooleduththu vaaraen
vinnila meen pudichchu saela thechchuth thaaraen
Again, the richness of the imagery is casually rendered like it is no big deal, that's the beauty of RVU's writing.

A little Digression ..
I have not heard a sillier song than
"I Love You" of Uyirodu Uyiraga..
Man.. I cringe with embarrassment when
I listen to the words..
VM.. How Low can u Go?

Gokul, it wouldn't have been a digression if you posted your message in the "Vairamuthu" discussion thread.

VM imagination goes spellbound in a situation where the guy and the girl are in their first touch of romance. This one is from kaadhal mannan.
Vaanum Mannum Katti kondathey
mannil neeelam otti kondathey
oru moongil kaaderiya ... siru pori onru poadhum
andha pori ingu thondriyathey
kaadhal inam paarpadhillai ... adhu idam paarpadhillai
adhu posukkendru poothiduthey
oru neerodai meenukku ... karai mael aasai vandhadhu ... ini ennenna nerthidumo.
This goes on as a question and answer for the justification of love between the two for the whole song. This is an apt combo of lyrics, and an extraordinary built up of music with good picturisation. Any comments.
