A little knowledgeable fan of music will easily identify the subsequent beats of any IR song after the first few words. His beats are the most boring and routine.
Frankly it is most amazing that his songs appeal to some people, given the monotony and non-imaginative nature of his songs.

Jacky,
Yes, go ahead. Load up all the inspirations IR got from. We are waiting. Let's see how close Michel Legrand or Francis Lai's music is close to IR.
"IRs music may work on TV, movies, or village
radio, but not on a dance floor, disco or niteclub. Am I right or wrong?"
Athu sarri. TV, moviesla vella seiyaama appuram enge velai seiyanum. ARR's and others' music can't even hold a candle for what they have been created for.

You have a right to like IR or anybody for that cause, but if you wanna find groundless points to mock ARR thats gonna make TFM forum really sick.
i dont have an "either or" choice, i like good music so i like IR and ARR.
You posts to defame ARR would just give you personal satisfaction, it wont do anything more.

Jacky Kennedy-Onassis,
Mounam Raagam was inspired from flashdance as well. There are 100s of threads in the archives debating the issues you have raised. So please dont bring the aracha maavu repeated thinking you have discovered something new.

Jackie:
My post was in response to yours where you were trying to frame a comparison that ARR was better than IR based on that Veerapandi Kottayile song. All I was pointing out was that if you were using that song was your basis of comparison, to do a rational comparison you may want to know that song (the one that you use to paint ARR as better than IR) was actually inspired from "Ottam Konda Raasave".
It is your choice to ignore that inspiration and hold on your strongly held beliefs. I consider myself a rational person and based on that in my opinion any mention of Veerapandi Kottaiyele in an argument is just further vindication of how advanced IR music was when he composed the tune about atleast about 10-15 years before it was inspired on.

KR,
I was just comparing two songs and not 2 MD's.
i dont know what made you think like that.
Lets go by your gospel,
July ganapathys song thani konjam sounds like a replica of Adityan's chandirare suryare - Amaran composed some 10 years back, does it mean Adityan was advanced of his times?

I didn't start this thread either. Perhaps Anbey Sivam should not mention IR at all. This thread is an acknowledgement of Maestro IR and his exciting beats .. or lack thereof.

Jacky,
Thanni konjam from julie ganapathy resembles "unna nambi mathiyile" from some old IR film which came some 23 yrs back.Maybe aadityan
composed a replica of this song.

Jacky:
I havent heard Adityan's song and infact have not even heard of Adiyan as a music director. But let us play this scenario out.
Your assumption for the Julie Ganapthy song, which I think is a phenomenal song, is that IR with such a background of accomplishments decides that specially as he is trying to compose a song for Julie Ganapthy decides that he needs to go back and get inspired by of all the people Adiyan from a song made 10 years ago. To me, rationally it is an inconcievable hypothesis.
Whereas, to me it is highly concievable that ARR used "ottam Konda Raasave" as an inspiration for "Veerapandi Kottayile" which was from his first or second movie. In addition, this actually is a modus operandi seen in many of ARR's compositions where he has inspired from some of MSV's compositions (like the Uyire song or Kadhalar Dhinam song) and set it to a more mordern orchestration. So based on that, the ARR's inspitaion of "Ottam Konda Raasave" is a more conceivable explanation.

Chandirane suriyane, is actually inspired from the very popular folk song: "Thanjavuru manneduthu thali onnu seyya sonnen". It is in fact the same exact tune, no change whatsoever.
I am sure Ilayaraja took inspiration from this song too.
Kr, how come when it comes to IR, it is highly inconcievable but applying the same logic to ARR it becomes very concievable... Double standards???

Thiruvasakam in Symphony!
I was wondering a few aspects about this musical project.
Why it has to be a public funded project?
Did the corporates say no to it, considering it will not be a commercial success.
Okay, in that case why has Mr.Illayaraja has to involve public money, can't he make an album out of his own money, Sell the audio rights to big companies like Sony.
When Rahman did Vande mataram he was backed by Bala and Kanika and later Sony got the rights for a huge price. Vande mataram was also an International project, its album was relesed in 26 countries.
Isn't Mr.Illayaraja not sure about the quality of his output that he's worried he may not recover production costs of the album?
May be they music company MD's knew his last product from Hungary was an ordinary thing like "Ramar analum Babbar Analum" so they didn't want to get involved in inception stages.
It is strange when he can produce movies why cant he produce his own album? Or atleast co-produce it with Tamil maiyam?
It's a novel thought to open a school of music but if the album doesn't sell well then how come he's going to generate the funds.
There are only 47 donors in the list, why are his dear buddies name Kamal hassan and Bharatiraja missing on the list.
Since the album is going to be produced in Hindi,English, Tamil and German, why has Mr.Illayaraja got to worry about the Sales? if he's sure he's gonna make something wonderful.
Its very clear he wants minimum risk and he doesnt want to play with his own money.
Is this a new way of doing business?
Okay lets predict they are making some profits, will the website put its revenues from all sources like Concerts, Audio sales, Rights etc.
They haven't mentioned anything about it, But why? If its a public project every single data has to be revealed.
So we really will not know Whats Mr.Illayaraja's Salary from the profits.
Whats excatly the financial role played by Tamil maiyam? are they going to have exclusive rights over the content or is it going to be shared by both Illayaraja and them, in any case Is Mr.Illayaraja paid an astromical salary from profits? or they are just paying the artists in hungary and Illayaraja is paid nothing.
Wouldn't any man who wants to contribute to this project or the so called Open project know all these facts!
My inference is - his dream would be accompolished - Making Thiruvasakam in Symphony, his personal monetary contribution is Zero, He has a chance to make profits, which will then be reused as funds for his music school.
Risk Factor to Mr.Illayaraja - Zero.
Profits - Yes.
Laurels - Yes from making such projects and re-investing it in a school.
Jeez, I haven't heard a better business venture than this in recent times!

Dude:
It is not double standards in my book and let me explain.
The inconceivabiity in IR looking for inspiration from Adityan is this. Let us play the scenario out. As the IR critics want to have it, IR, after all his accomplishments, suddenly decides that for a song in Julie Ganapthy that he needs inspiration and seeks to Adityan's music of 10 years back for inspiration. First, one of the accusations about IR is that he is a very proud man and a little arrogant about hsi musical prowess. So just based on that, he as an seeker of inspiration is inconceivable. Secondly, let me be one of the IR haters and assume that he is a seeker of inspiration, it is inconceivable that he goes out and seeks Adityan's music for inspiration for as far as I know Adityan is not a repositary of such musical wisdom where IR would feel compelled to seek inspiration from.
Lets move on the conceivable part of the inspiration of "Veerapandi Kottayile" from Ottam Konda Raasave". Thiruda Thiruda was ARR's first or second movie. IR is a repository of musical wisdom based on the breadth and depth of compsitions tuned by him. The tunes are very similar. And ARR has followed these patterns where he takes an old song and sets it mordern orchestration...be it Enna Vilai azhage in Uyire from Thanga Padhakadhin mele or the "kolattam" song from Kadhalar dhinam from "Chippi Irukkudhu" from Varumaiyin Niram Sigappu etc. There is a pattern of how he does. Therefore, a deliberate attempt of getting inspired from "Ottam Knda Raasave" is conceivable.

KR,
So what if its his 2nd movie, he got a National award for his 1st movie, for IR to get a national award he had to wait for 10 solid years.
Besides ARR was selected for a scholarship at the age of 9, he went to Trinity music school London.
He learnt Carnatic music with TV gopalakrishnan.
Are the ragas or swaras copyrighted to IR anyone can use it.
If IR is arrogant and self obsessed with his music then why did he blatantly lift tunes or get inspirations?
This has been discussed in other threads.
So when IR gets inspired its ok and thats not the case for ARR.
