everyone said that after that kandokondEn audio release function VM and ARR would not work together, VM not writing for thenali, rahman has opted new lyricists and so....
but they made it a false news by working for Rythm, Kannathil and Baba.
now its a serious one.
rahman has given an interview in kumudham.
a nice one.
so very interesting.
about bombay dreams,
about next projects and all.
he has openly said the problems between him and VM and would not be working with him here on.
just that one was shocking 'cas ARR has never given such a statement before.
can some one fwd any link to that kumudham page ?
the reasons rahman has listed are,
1) he had to send tunes from london thru phone
and VM was not interested and wanted rahman
to be here which is not possible for him.
2) he also said that VM wanted to do all songs
and was not interested in working with other
lyricist in the same movie.
so he said it would not be possible for both to work together. he also has mentioned VM has contributed a lot to the industry.
there was already a news in Hindu that VM alone was not interested in the making of songs for baba, where all others including rajni were impressed with rahman.
who is going to get affected more by this seperation, rahman or vairamuthu ?
its a fact 15 yrs back when vairamuthu came out of IR he was so much pulled down, he almost had no films to work with and was writing dialogues to dubbing movies and survived with chandrabose like MDs until arrival of ARR.

I am NOT against VM - I am only against the opinion that Valee is inferior to VM ... Which I can never accept !
To be frank, In the recent past VM has lost his magic touch (except for couple of songs per year may be), and recycling too much ! So I doubt if a 'IR - VM Combo' will recreate that quality in songs - if it really happens (which I doubt very much !)

I didn't realize that this was a debate over VM and Valee. My point was that the lyrics in the three films mentioned weren't upto par with certain works of VM and ARR. The question of Valee's ability didn't rise. Moreover, VM utilizes simple tamil to optimum effect as well. I hope nobody is going to come say to me that "Chinna Chinna Aasai" is lyrically heavy. Narumagaiye was like 1 in a 100, and it was heavily inspired.
In any event, I have digressed from my point. As I said, I wasn't debating the abilities of 2 poets. I just mentioned that, though popular, the 3 films mentioned were not musically and lyrically(Yes) in par with a lot of VM/ARR combo. Yes, the songs mentioned by NagaS and Raj were hits, and yes, the lyrics were good, but my point was(repeating) that in comparison to some work of ARR/VM combo, it was mediocre. As a whole album, they really didn't live upto the standards or expectations of most fans. That was obvious when the albums released. Save "Mustafa" in Kadhal desam, who was appealed by the softer numbers or even fast beats. Most people still refer to a "Chinna Chinna aasai" or "Kaadhal Rojave" when asked for ARR's best. Yes, I do know that the same combo (ARR/VM) gave some mediocre stuff as well. I am not here to argue for VM, nor am I his fan.
Furthermore, regarding Kannadhaasan, I am the last person for any discussion regarding Kannadhaasan. Try someone else:-)

VM I think surely contributed to ARR's success as much as ARR did to him . VM's specialty seems to be 'flowery' language and 'impressive frivolity' :) :) these kind of lyrics go with the easy-going songs of these days !!! Another strength of his, is rustic lyrics (as UdhayA observed once). The BR-VM movies recognised ARR as a well-rounded composer. It will be interesting to see how ARR will address these areas in future. I think, since, ARR has acccumlated enough experience, he will be able to identify a good lyric/lyricist in future.
(dont you guys think vAli is little serious ? people seem to find these things too heavy..ofcourse, as a teenager I liked all of VMs output, but now I just go by the lyrics..and am a little serious too now :))

aruvi,
Those 3 films I mentioned, didn't fail in public's reception when compared to the VM penned soundtracks of ARR. Thus, absence of VM didn't hurt ARR. But if we want to see how much VM helped ARR's success then we should talk about how he didn't help Ratchagan to become a hit. Both VM and ARR are talented enough to survive without the other.
The main idea in my post is that nobody benefits from a monopoly. VM hasn't written a poetic song since "Nee kaatru naan maram". Whether he's a washout or just plainly resting on his laurels is not my concern. That TFM lyrics have not progressed much in the last 10 years is very much my concern.

few thoughts
1. ARR dun want to give anyone complete control over his music. Noone claims for ARR's success. He want to be the whole reason himself.
2.Even to give such a control Vyramuthu is the wrong guy. May be his lyrics good but he has a very proud bitchy mouth.
3. May be Hariharan or SPB the greatest singer but how would it look if they sing all the songs ina movie. Wont ppl get bored?
4. ARR said he wanted to do it by phone but Vyrmuthu said he want to do it in real.. I dun think he would go to london and do it, he expected to ARR to come india just for him and do it. The world knows who is busy right not.
I would blame ARR 10% and Vyratmuthu 90% on this.
ARR would definitely survive.. he relied on music and risked with new singers and made hit (Karthik, Srinivas,Yugendiran..)
Vyramuthu may survive today but due to his proud bitchy way some other MD will do tomorow what ARR did today.

NagaS,
Why are people worried about the return of IR-VM combo? there is no doubt that IR tends to dominate over the lyrics, but I sincerely believe that IR has tried to bring out the best from any lyricist he has worked with ( if the lyricist can't deliver thats another matter). It is true that VM was able match his poetry with IR's genius during the 'peak', but he got carried away and ended up a 'nobody' till another genious (ARR) resurrected him. there is no doubt that when a good composer gives VM a chance, he can highlight his lyrical ability with the 'mettu' that is given to him, but that doesn't mean that he can delude himself to 'obscurity'. but the situation VM is putting himself into now, he will have to wait for another IR or ARR. IR is not going to lift him again - he has been given the chance. I don't have much respect for VM's non cinematic creations either (though i have to admit that i haven't read his 'kallikatu ithihasam' or whatever, i can't be bothered).
ARR, like IR, should move towards composition that doesn't depend on lyrics such as pure instrumentals and chorus vocals which he seems to have realized just about now.
As Udhaya said, tamil literature does seem to need more poets and VM is the not the one please

i feel neither of them wud be affected
coz.......ARR is busy as always........he doesnt require VM to produce hit songs.......songs these days are not like those in the olden days so that the lyrix are heard and interpreted.........beats are given more priority.......who cares wat is being conveyed??......atleast i dont :))
and VM..........he can always run to a set of other local MDs present in TFM today........just like he did during IR period......but the thing is the no. of local MDs in TFM happen to be much more.......so VM can always survive........and btw ARR does few films in a year.....so i don think VM will be affected as well

I Always Feel It's a Joint Effort.
both the MD & Lyricist Play Equal Role when it Comes to the Song
There Are many Films OF VM+Arr which Which had Avg Song
Love birds Had only 2 nice Songs
Malargale,Nalai ulagam illai
but Samba samba,Come on Come on Were Avg
similarly Rakshagan
& As NAGAS Pointed out Vaalee Does the Job Very Simply & makes the Situation Perfect..
while VM in many Occasions make It HEavy..
I do Agree that this is not a Debate b/t Vaalee & VM
but it has to Do with Who Gives Success with ARR
I feel it shoulod be Equally Measured
