Arul is definitely better than Gilli. Haven't seen Eithiri so can't compare with that. Songs and BGM is also good. Should be a moderate hit. Still can't understand how Gilli is running...really stupid.

Suspicions coming true afterall, the movie probably is going to receive a lukewarm response at box office due to varied reasons.

the villain role is with selvaraghan (dir of kadhal kondein)
seems Arul is a hit just not as big as they hoped

Anybody who says ARUL is not a big hit or something, is probably jealous of Vikram's superstarsom, and waana elevate maybe Vijay or Ajith to that level. The truth of the matter is, I watched all movies over the 2 weeks that include ARUL, Gilli, Jana (just 1st half) and Ethiree, and ARUL is totally in a different league from the rest. The gap between Vikram's performance and others is way tooooo huge.....

"anniyama pannavaran anduvenika poodikathu...asingama pessuaraven Aruliku poodikathu"
That would probably rap up the storyline for the movie.but who watches a masala movies for the story you have to go in leaving ur brain behind for a masala movie (hehe or almost any indian movie) but n e ways moving on to the movie.
THE BAD:
BGM is a buss. Add a lot Saamy, lil bit of Khaka Khaka, one flute bit from Minnale, an Arul chant & one "new" bit from HJ you got the BGM.
Wasted Chaya Singh (Manmadha Rasa gal) in the first song cuz well Vikram cant realli do much dancing. So she just wiggles her hips and flails her arms along with Vikram
Vikram's one liners are enjoyed by the audience BUT he could have said em with sum kind of enthusiasm. He only says it once with elan.other then that its kinda like ur abt to get an a$$ whoopin but i have to say the lines first.
Unnecessary vettu kuthu in the end. Director wanted to wrap up the movie realli quick and you can tell. Theres nuthin witty abt the actions Vikram takes against the bad guy, whereas in dhool and saamy there was some.
Lastly Ending was weak...but then again so were Dhool and Saamy but this one left me thinkin..."thats gay"
THE GOOD: Yes thers good stuff in the movie dont be upset with all the bad i mentioned.hehe the movie is still worth at least one watch at the theater not thiruta vcd...Jana so far is the only movie of the big 5 that have came out, which i would refuse seeing in the theater.
First half was entertaining and quite fast paced didnt realize we got thru half the movie so quickly.2nd half teeters a little bit but is still above avg pace.
Comedy between Vikram and Jo was well done; Vadiveil does his job in his usual loud manner.
Vikram's performance as the do gooder who is quick tempered. We've seen this kind of role from him before and he does it with ease. He brings life to the character.
Jo compliments Vikram's character very well. She's her usual bubbly self.Lost weight so shes become a little easier on the eyes. And doesnt do an annoying role.Except for when she tells him how she wont change....thats a lil over cuz well the audience already knows she wont after she said it the first time. She doesnt needa say it everytime she sees vikram.
KS Ravikumar is a nice surprise.Him and Vadiveil gel well together.
The trailors make it seem like there is a whole bunch of fights...well there is abt 4-5 fights but they are short and quick so they arent painful to sit thru which is a plus.
Odiyannam song is nicely taken. Punnakku song is sorta funny to watch but reminds you of Veppamarum from Saamy.
Overall an entertainer that most will enjoy. If you're a Vikram and/or Masala fan this is a good movie for you. Will be an Avg hit I feel.

Saw Peralagan....
Brilliant performances by Surya & Jo. Chinna & Shenbagam will win all the credits...but the other Surya too has done a commendable job. Particularly.....after a long time.... may be since the Sivaji Ganeshan starrers ...throughout the film....I didn't feel that I am watching the same actor playing a dual role. Actually...this credit of 'differentiation' should got to the 'other' Surya too. The ease (without making much noise) with which he has handled and delivered this performances should be appreciated.
Chemistry betwenn Surya & Jo is seen to beleived!
Good comedy...Vivek & Surya rocks! Though Vivek could have avoided his comments on dwarfs.
Photography was commendable....the lightings and the shades gelled well with the scenes. E.g. brighter shades for the fun loving Chinna and darker/moody shades for the other rough & moody Surya. The picturisation of "Kaatru Enbatha" was different.
Songs are above average..."Ambuli Mama" stood out and will be a hit! BGM was impressive.
Stunts were vibrant...good show by Surya & credits to the Stunt Master.
Neat screenplay and narration with an unexpected twist at intermission. The second half was gripping. While I was expecting an unusual climax...it turned out to be a some what expected/usual (read happy) ending. It appeared as if the director was keen on wrapping up the film quickly and the commercial needs of AVM seems to have influenced the climax. Despite it being a remake of a Malayalam hit!, the last 20 minutes of the film could have been handled better...based more on the emotional play among the two Suryas and Jo than on the villain. That would have made this a film with a 'difference'.
Neverthless.....it has turned out to be a neat and entertaining film for the whole family (read 'no violence','double meaning dialogues' and'sexual references').
Verdict: Ladies and kids will flock to the theatres and it will be a hit....which will take Surya to the next level up!
