Digresion
Thanks for Identifying me in IR GUMBAL. Ironically I was also indirectly identified as in ARR GUMBAL in some other thread. (ho! is that why udhaya, peeps and all called me ambivalent :-) )
In the opinion about IR, i felt a unnecessary draging of Bharathy in the line of politicians. Bharathy is more than a politician whereas Kamaraj, Anna and all are just politicians. The 'mere' was not to mean they were 'mean' politicians. So, that sentence of mine still stands.
IR may be (or "is", whatever way u wish to call) nowhere in TFM now, he doesnt give good cine music (or "can no longer give", if u wish). But certain thing regarding him cannot be changed and one such is what i claimed.
Finally, It feel very b(s)ad that i'm branded as in this GUMBAL or in that GUMBAL. I wish to be an unattached element who like good music, who wish to support merits of this or that MD and who wish to share demerits of this or that MD.
Sorry peeps and other i cud not resist to reduce my junks' length, what to do :-(
End Digresion

How can anyone say that Raja should retire? who would take his place? A R Rahman is a very slow composer, and if you think we can rely on him to give us good music, you are mistaken, for you will not get more than one good film music album a year. We will be left with Deva, S A Rajkumar, etc. Doesn't that frighten you?
And besides, while I agree that A R Rahman is a very talented composer, I also have to say that there seem to be a lot of people here who PRETEND to have a very sophisticated taste for music. These people will say that albums like "Rhythm" are excellent. They will not listen to and appreciate truly melodious songs like "Kannaamoochi yaenadaa..." from "Kandukondain Kandukondain" or "Yennavazhae adi yenavazhae..." from Kaadhalan, etc. The biggest hit from the "Kandukondain Kandukondain" was that "Smaiyaai" number, which was the worst song in that album. The problem is that when these fans of music hear something that sounds new, they think they have to listen to it, because it is "sophisticated". I heard that sales of the audio cassettes/compact discs of "Rhythm" broke all records! I'm sure A R Rahman himself would agree that it was not a good album. Please, I thought only North Indians used to do this, pretending to have highly sophisticated tastes, but now it seems even we in the South are doing this. Please, stop this nonsense, and enjoy the music, and don't just say that a song is good just because it was composed by a certain music director.

For a change from the series of stupid arguments amd posts, good point Vijay.
a.a ----> Try to come up with some logical points rather than some mass addressing and stupid posts.
IR retiring is none of our business. Its his own personal wish and thought & we as listeners, have to choose what we want to hear.

Vijay...I do agree Rythum is just average...Sorry...It did sell wellin overseas cd market but did not make record sales here in India...Sophisticated crowd did carry Agni Natchathiram cassettes and RAJA..RAJADHI..RAJA..received more welcome than THOONGADHA VIZHIGAL RENDU...Mostly movie cassette buying crowd is Teenage/youngsters and you can not expect them torun after slow numbers...The thread asks one...whether Raaja should retire...Graceful decision is always..better...a.a

Digression
I've nothing to offer to the topic. But, it is amazing to see a thread come up because someone thought the movie Kodeeswaran has something to do with new Koteeswaran program, and asked how to participate in it. And then, people see this as the latest updated thread, so they come in and throw their 2 cents worth thinking the topic is still alive and the argument keeps going on and on and on and on..
its like the night of the living dead, topics keep coming up from the grave (unintentionally)..

RR,
There are some worthy (as in, informative and not divisive) topics that can't be revived from the Archives, and then there are these topics that get revived. Isn't there something admins can do to seal off certain topics from resurfacing in the DF? If so, this thread should be one of the first to qualify.

old tfm readers i think should stop reading newtfmpage from now now then only these admin will do something about these kind of worthless topic starters. He is just poking his nose in every topic and his only intention seems to be pull down IR and there by hitting a horns nest...
well there some more buffons who also react to these kind of messages please stop put an end to this

Maybe Raja does need to move away from Film music. Agreed, its the only thing that really sells now. But then a composer of Ilaiyaraaja's stature can actually do a couple films and spend the rest of his time in bringing out experimetal albums like How to Name it and Nothing But Wind. That would not only make more sense but would do justice to his composing abilities. There is a hitch however. That strategy was what Raja should have followed in his heydays. When he had the huge cassette buying public's following, there was an opportunity For Raja to do about 3-4 albums every year and create a niche market for himself. I believe he squandered that oppurtunity by wasting time on stupid films. Now it is much more difficult to establish that position given the reduced fan following (or should I say commercial fan following)
