FOR THOSE WHO ARE INTERESTED - BRIEF REVIEW OF ESK.......
Got ESK yesterday. ARR has done it again. Great Western Classical style Instrumentation, NEELAMBARI RAGA touches(THEME) and Variations style featuring in all songs(Ninaithen Vanthai Style) , The Title song, En Swasa Kaatre by MG Shreekumar, an excellent Accapella number - I certainly fell in love with this at first listening - very mellow. Unni and Chithra sing a great Hamsadwani/Neelambari(En veetu from Gentleman touches). Harini performs well in Niagra(shame about the Viagra words), the chorues are a bit strange, the Kalyani Raga bits are great - very catchy. SPB and Chithra do a fantastic, very refreshing number in Sri Ragam(or is it Manirangu?). Mohammed Rafee of Breakthrough fame has an awful Baila sounding song, maybe it will grow on me...... MGS has another good song, catchy, enjoyable. ARR seems to have doubled tracked some of the voicing - Unni, MGS.....MGS's Mallu accent is not too blatent here, as has been in some of his other Tamil stuff....All in all, ESK sounding very good, RR's comments very vaild.....Good points. I's give it 5/6 - 5 good songs out of 6, as happens rarely with ARR's stuff, first listen gave me this impression.

"ARR has done it again... featuring in all songs(Ninaithen Vanthai Style)"
Y?Geetha;Y are you contradicting your proclaimed name(ARR rasigar) by comparing with Ni.Va? Even a ARR-baiter like me wouldnt dare do that! :)

Mr Deva Rasigan illai: As I've said time in time again, this was for people who are interested in ARR ONLY, not for those who will do anything give me a personal attack for everything I write.... I always, ALWAYS try and give an UN-BIASED views of the songs I listen to and will not put down an MD, unless they deserve to be put down, unlike YOU. For your information, Ninaithen Vandhai was done by Deva in Tamil, but the songs are mainly from the original in Telugu or Hindi, I don't think Deva deserves the full credit for that film. To second this, please try and UNDERSTAND WHAT I WRITE, before foolishly saying NASTY things about me..... I said that the THEME AND VARIATIONS have been in the style of Nin Vanthai - i.e., if you knew what I was actually talking about, there was an underlying piece from the Vanna Nilave song in CHANDRAKAUNS RAGA which featured in many of the other songs in the film, this is the Theme and Variations style(ARR has chosen to use Neelambari in ESK) I was referring to, and by no means was I comparing Deva and ARR. As I wlways say and from the e-mails I get from people, if you had any sense, you would realise that I am a FAN OF MUSIC, any thing that gives a good melody is music to me, regardless of who the composer is, I just happen to like ARR, unlike most of you in this forum who will not OPEN THEIR EARS to anyone's mucis except IR's - When IR has a song like Diana from Kadhal Kavidhai which so closely resembles DEVA's Oru Mani Adithaal, no one says a thing here, when he uses Ila Arun in a song very much like the one ARR used her in, same love for him comes from you people - your critical ears become deaf to these matters...... If you don't like my postings, don't read them, I did this for the few ARR fans who haven't heard the album and have been awaiting with anticipation, thats ALL.... I'd ask you to keep your biases and comments away from my few postings, as I think my knowledge of music surpasses yours Mr Deva Rasigan illai(I may be sounding Big headed here, but from your CRASS comment, I can say nothing less abput you).......This thread is not for people like you who close their mind to the world and it's various music, it's for the genuine fans, so please let them enjoy it....Do not try and mis-interpret my words or sentences, I can make comparisons, as long as they are valid....You have no right to make personal attacks every time I write, so that I stop writing here in ALL the threads.....For your information, to make you all happy, I don't participate in any IR threads or other ones, just the ARR ones and the Raga thread, I listen to almost evey album(including Tamil Pop), but have to avoid sharing my knowledge and comments because of people like you..... I even had an e-mail from a guy saying that I was one of the few un-biased people here and not to stop posting, hence, I post occassionally, it's obvious that you people don't want me here at all, I feel that this kind of nastiness is totally uncalled for......

I did not see nothing CRASS in that comment by Deva_Rasigar_Illai. You must've found a better movie to compare those songs against. Or, was that an implicit indication of ESK's quality (or lack of it?)
No disclaimers and :-(((

I can't believe I made all those grammatical errors. Mr/Miss/Mrs. Clarify : thanks for commenting on your post, else I would not have even noticed mine.
The last sentence should be:
I've been waiting a long time to hear someone's review.

Geetha,
I don't know you, but by reading your review I have to say that you enjoy listening to good music, you certainly have good taste! You must have studied music well, you have identified ragas. I 100% agree with your comparisions, as long as the music is good, we shouldn't care about who composed it when it comes to appreciation. Deva does have talent, otherwise he wouldn't be number one (# of albums) in Tamil.
You got ticked off by Deva Rasigan illai posting I don't think the anger is from this specific posting, prehaps you should reexamie the root cause for the problem. And these kinds of postings should make you write more not less! if every one like your self who can contribute to the music lovers community choose not to contribute just because a few trouble makers are out there, then who is going to write the reviews?
what do you do when you get a crank call? don't you just ignore? or do you actually get the phone disconnected? think about this!, this is just like you not participating here, also you should participate in the IR threads.
I myself am a music fan. I grew up with IR's music. I love his music, but I also appreciate the details ARR provides with, I like the richness of ARRs music. I love the melody in IR's music. Basically I listen to the best from both or any.
The problem with our community is that we have been followers all the time, we were spoon fed. So for some people their heros are their life, they become more of a fanatic. And this is fairly understandable as Tamil nature.
So keep on with the good job, write more reviews on both IR and ARR or whoever, and for people like me, if you can educate us on the ragas - Perfect!
You go Girl !

this is what ustaad zakir hussein said when asked the following question:
What do you think of music director A R Rahman's work?
Very intelligent, smart and creative. He started as a young boy working with great composers like R Mahadevan, for example. He knows the public pulse and has given the public a very intelligent combination package. This reminds me of R D Burman. These guys made it possible to bring together all elements of world music.
