What Makes a MD successfull Talen or Oppurtunity or Luck or Publicity?

I really want to find some information regarding this. What makes a MD hit or popular or what makes him field out. Does talent alone is enough or does he need to express his music well and also use and exploit opportunity and good PR
So pour in your suggestion,ideas
For example I personally believe Karthik Raja is highly talented with sound knowledge but he hadnt got any breaks why?

  I am not anti-ARR. I agree that he definitely did good music for a decent number of movies. But I would like to emphasize that it was an anti-IR wave among the top cats that lined-up with his growth. If the directors were so much concerned about bringing out new MD's then they must have equally opted for other young MD's. My question is Why all the above said director's worked with ARR did not even attempted to opt for KR or YSR or for that matter with any other young MD. They did not want to. The way they went behind ARR and attempted to promote him despite knowing his + and - is rather absurd and obviously make people to think that it was an anti-IR wave that promoted ARR and not a sincere attempt to give chances to new MD's.   Just augment Fliflo's statement, yes, these big directors should have tried other young MDs long back (not after using IR for 25 years). Whether we agree or not, it is anti-IR feeling, that brought down IR or brought up ARR.
  
  Anyway it is MR who gave KR a break. It is not big directors. It is mostly media which did a lot of damage for IR.

  imo nowadays luck+support factor plays more for a person to become a successful MD. I bet ARR need not be ARR now (i.e. this much talent he posses) if he has luck+support he will be in numero uno. this, i think, he knows; but still he works hard to stay in the future. the case with IR is not like that. Yes, Luck+support should also be there but it was not such a big percentage as it is now. That is why IRs music for not well know movies/banners were also successful then. I feel if IR were doing same music for such 'not so well known movies' as he was doing in late 70s and earlier 80s they might not be numero uno songs.
  
  y to talk about IR and ARR. Lets take other examples just tell me are the songs of SAR worth listening? r they so good as songs of 'chinna poovae mella pesu'? but see SAR is a top MD. same is the case of Deva.
  
  one point i like to add..earlier postings say Shankar was nothing when Gentleman was released; yes infact the factor of KT Kunjumon is more in Gentleman than Shankar even after its great success. But the support part plays a very good role for ARR. His earlier movie Roja is a All India success by that time. So ARR is known guy now. KT Kunjumon followed the marketing strategy very well to see to that those songs become super hit (im not saying those songs were bad...what im saying in even if songs r good, nowadays u need strong marketing or else they will march towards dustbin). i know it, KT Kunjumon himself told this to my cousin and his other collegues in a public sector bank. KTK was badly needing money; that time he went that bank and said "im doing a new movie called Gentleman, the cassettes r released now, im using best in marketing dept. to make it successful so that my movie become a good hit". his technique indeed payed him. i think Gentleman's cassette sales took off very well only from second week of its release. ofcourse it became super hit because of its songs no doubt but the initial factor and the support/hype is much needed.
  
  SuperGood film chowdary did the same for poovae unakkaga. The songs were hit even though the music is not that much great (copy, inspiration and recycle are the aliases for poovae unakkaha songs).

  Fliflo: Jodi (though a repeat of a Hindi score) had very good songs. Ratchagan and Romeo too had a few good songs. I don't understand how you can claim Padayappa music was a flop. The songs were commercial hits and perfectly matched with the movie. Likewise with Thenali.
  
  Marketing, big banners and big directors are all part of the filmworld and apply to one and all. Whom should ARR work with to show that he can give good music?
  
  Claiming that being IR's children could be a disadvantage for KR and YSR is absolutely wrong, IMO. The only reason these guys are being supported so much (at least in newtfmpage) is because of IR.

  My thinking is that since KR/YSR are children of IR, they got the worst treatment so far inspite of good hit albums they had.

  Reasons for a MD to be successful:
  
  1) Talent
  2) Good Directors
  3) Big Banners (Good Advt)
  4) Big Actors
  5) Movie should be a hit
  6) Sentiment (If the movie is a hit, the entire crew gets a chance even if the music is bad. Raasiyaana MD)
  7) Timely delivery (Arr is worst)
  8) Flexibility with change of time/taste (IR is not flexible)
  9) Hard work to achieve name/fame
  10) Media support
  
  Having said this I will rate the present MD's. Please don't jump on me. This is my personal opinion (and it changes person to person). Instead of finding fault with me, you can tell your opinion.
  
  IR : Got everything except point 8,10. Now missing 2,3 and 4
  ARR: Except 7.
  KR/YSR : Got 1, 7 & 9. Almost all movies are flopps and entire industry seems to be against IR's family (as if he spoiled their lives. God knows why).
  Deva: Very flexible. That is the problem!
  SAR : Got 5.

  If you gave YSR half the breaks that ARR had in his time, you would find that YSR would be bigger than ARR. WHat films has he had that have been hits?Only his films have been flops, but the music has always been great. Look at Rishi, How do you expect YSR to progress if he is given films that star Sarathkumar and Meena?
