I wathced Kannaththil Muththamittal. Really horrble BGM and songs from ARR. Mani has missed IR very much in this type of movie. I hope mani will learn a lesson after seeing Alagi and Kasi.

Yes Robin, The BGM is big time suck. The movie is great. Mani should select atleast Bharathwaj.

Saw Kannathil Muthamittal! I agree with Robin. It's a wonderful movie, till the climax. But the climax spoils it. The emotions do not touch us as it should!
Contrast this with Azhagi, where you are virtually are in tears at the end. Where does Azhagi gain, thatKM fails? After all, KM boasts of superior stars,a better director, a better technical crew.
I think this contrast also shows us the importance of music in a movie! And the diffence Raja makes ?
Even the devudaa's would agree!

I dont mean to gatecrash into the party, but it was jus very interesting to see IR fans entertaining themselves wit ARR bashing and actually discussing "ARR's new albums" to their heart's content. Well that's a good way to amuse urself when your Lord has not had any recent releases.
But it's good to see u guys reserve all the bashing to this thread. Keep it up. :-)))
And before someone tells me to 'get the hell out', i'm outta here. :-)

Eventhough the movie has got some emotional scenes, Mani couldn't bring the touch only because of the background music. For example, compare the background songs and music, when people are running when the helicopter showered bombs and just comparte the scene where people are running for rain in Alagai. Un Kuththama ... the song and the music brings the punch for the scene. Eventhough Vairamuthu's lyrics and picturization is good, 100% ARR spoils the scene.
Mani, as Kumar mentioned at least use Bharatwaj, who gave an excellent BGM in Paandavar Bhoomi.

Saw Azhagi y'day on video. Great movie, very naturally done, hats off to the the director Thankar Bachan. After Aliyatha Kolangal this is one movie that brings on waves of nostalgia. Tell me which one among you did not have a class-mate nicknamed kattai or kattaiyan? (or is this nick-name peculiar to Coimbatore district?)
The selection of the cast too was impeccable, right from the kids to the adults.
The only minus point was the comedy track of Vivek. It wasn't as funny as Vivek's usual ones, but I guess since it was the director's 1st movie he had to put in stuff like that.
I couldn't get the full effect of the songs or the BGM, but the BGM was really great, even on video.

I forgot to add. The director must be a big fan of IR. (I know the producer Udayakumar is) He has used the songs from Bhadrakali playing on the radio in a few places, and there is also a poster of Annakili. These touches also enhanced the nostalgic effect.
In one scene Parthiban reads a book with IR on the cover.

The film that I am going to work on now is for Mahendran, which again will be serious... I still cannot erase Azhaki from my mind. But I am planning to make a film on folk music. And I have already started discussing about this with Ilaiyaraja.
so happy about that. a nice interview

is there any one influential enough to force the Audio distributors of 'Azhagi' to include the song at the orphanage, which comes in thee movie?

I read on tamilcinema.com that ILaiyaraja is producing the next movie to be directed by Vinaiyan who directed KAASI,Ilaiyaraja had also produced movies such as Kozhi koovuthu and Singaavelan which had some beautiful musical numbers.
also can someone confirm if Ilaiyraja is composing the music for the tamil remake of KArumari kuttan ?

12bums,
The orphanage song was amazing, remainded me of the houseful song "En guruvum" (which also is sung in the orphanage).
The possiblity of it getting released is less, since there are number of films like this were IR had included songs in the re-rerecording....

When MDs take years to score music, IR scores music instantaneously as part of BGM. By the time audio cassettes are released. Not sure how easy job it is to add the songs but should be added. Else we miss few more great songs from Maestro. Also there is another song in the temple when Paarthipan meets Nandita after a long time. Its a folk song coming less than a minute. Its a nice one too.

RajKiran's next movie is 'Muthumani Kiliye'. No info about the MD. Hopefully Maestro. Excepting for one film, for all other films IR scored music. (Ofcourse Maanickam was scored by KR).

Ok. This is the translation of JV.
'This MD can score music at 120 KMPH speed. The recent fils where he scored music are flops and cassette sales are also poor. He is asking his assitants to say 'the MD is out of city' to those coming to book him'

guys
had a chance to watch "japanil kalyanaraman" and "ellam inbamayam"... BGM in both these movies was great and all songs were melodious. Particularly chinnapoo song was just awesome !!!
the lesson is that one can watch any IR movie (hit/flop) without disappointment.
