vidamatteenga polirukke! IMO, in the context that KD has written (exchange of love), he is OK. He could have replaced the word 'karunai' with someother word. Being such a renowned poet , he should not have run 'work hungry'. RS, neengalum jeyichchutteenga, nanum jeyuchchutten ! eppadi

aiyoo ellorum oditeengala??
Rs and others-Kannadasan wrote these words to suit the character sivaji played in that film. He will be shown as an egoistic person rite from the start ing of the film. Adhanaal dhan he will have difficulty accepting the 'other' daughter after knowing it was not born to him. Manaivikku madhippu (avalaavaaga)kodukkadha oru kadhapathiram.
What else can we expect from such an egoistic personality??
kannadasan(RS pls dont call him KD it sounds like kedi)words speaks for such a character-idhu avaroda sondha karuthukkal endru ninaippadhu thavaru.

Here is one more angle of thinking konjam pEthala irundhaal ennai adikka varaadheenga.
karunai : is shown by somebody superior to someone inferior. Example Aandavan karunai kaattavEndum. Aanaal aandavan kaattum karunaikku parisu thara mudiyumma. oru seyallukku parisu thara oruvaraal mudiyum endraal avarukku seyalai seidhavanai vida thiramai irundhirukka vEndum allava. Adhanaal male ego'vai satisfy panna karunai endru koorivittu piragu atharkku parisu tharum alavukku female'ai adhaivida uyarthirukkiraar kavignar. Idhepadi.
Ayyo ennai adikka varaaang, naan udarEn joot.

Ramki,
i can understand based on the story, kavingar has used the word 'karunai' to show depict the egoistic nature of the song. But it is a love song and when you are making love, you have to have mutual exchange and not one sided. In this context could you please tell me whether the word 'karunai' is still justifiable. If you take the song 'nee katru naan maram' , it is a best example of 'togetherness' any thoughts?
dharumiye, 'parisu' kidaithatha?!!!

I noticed i have typed both 'show' and 'depict' together. Choose any word of your liking!(chappaikattu for a mistake!)

Ramki, I will not agree with you. Just because he is egoist, karunai will not become justifiable.
Moreover, the most amazing part is that
that line was sung by female singer and not male.

RS,
it is not just kavingar who has used words that would give room for misinterpretation by the opposite gender. Vali has also used(infact blatantly!) many times in love songs (esp. MGR songs) words like 'vaLLal' as if the hero is gifting the heroine with 'vAzhkai', 'inbam' etc. IMO, these words sound odd in a love song even if the hero's character in the movie is a 'kodai vaLLal'. May be they were written so to please MGR. But if you take 'malare mounama' from karna which is one of the recent ones by vali, it goes 'puthu vAzhkai thantha vaLLalE..'. I don't remember the story , MAY be arjun indeed gives heroine (ranjitha?) a life when she is one of those victims of 'oppressive' society.

Excuse me RAmesh. Let us not bring in MGR Songs here. Since MGR songs are written keeping his image in mind.
appa kooda Vallal vanthu avaroda real-life-la avar vallal appadingarathai thaan mean pannanga.
Here karunai and parisu refer to an act. And u know what that act is and let me not detail u abt that. What is nauseating is if wives start thanking their husband for that !!
And about 'pudhu vazhkkai thantha vallale' no comments. yenna nan padam parkkalai

OK , let us not drag this any further. I think this has already been discussed in this thread before and we are just reinventing the wheel. Let us go on to the next song. Another 'touching' song by kannadasan is 'sonnathu neethAnA'. This is one of those songs that made everyone in the theater cry!

Guys , i was listening to songs of 'deiva magan' today and was surprised to note that a fun song ( totally "out of the world"!) was written by kannadasan. Until today i was under the impression such songs were written by vali. But the words were NOT so 'provocative' as one of vali's, but still are 'enticing'. here is the song..

Is there any other 'tantalizing' fun song written by kavingar ?

Ramki,
could you please clarify if Kannadasan was the lyricist for the two 'fun' songs following (or were they by Vali?)
1.hai hai nEththu poothalE rOja mottu,

Rameshb can you tell me from which film are these songs are?
- From: rameshb (@ spider-wg011.proxy.aol.com) on: Wed Feb 10 19:19:42 EST 1999
Ramki,
they are from the film 'urimaikkural' in which we had that haunting number 'vizhiyE kathai ezhuthu'
- From: Ramki (@ pm062-10.spindler.wmich.edu) on: Wed Feb 10 19:31:01 EST 1999
Rameshb vaali wrote all the songs in Urimaikural except 'vizhiye kadhai ezhudhu'.
