After the high profile debut Karthik Raja had,has he really fulfilled the expectations from him?I feel that he has been brilliant in Ullasam and the Hindi movie Grahan, but not really earth-shattering as Rahman was in 92-93.What is his current status in TFM ? And what do our DF members think about his future ??

all right cool down I understand that you are a diehard ARR fan and what KR said about wasnt nice, but on the other hand its his oppion. People do have their own opinion and we should respect it, even if we dont agree with it. And beside we all know about tamil magazines, they write one thing as a million, so we never know if he quoted it in the same way. Maybe he said something else and the people misquoted him. it is usually in the tamil media, especially the film media

A clarification: KR has later on said that ARR and he are friends and that he was misquoted by Filmfare. He said he didn't make a big hue and cry denying it as that would then make the issue big. That's why so few people know about this.
He has also aditted that Roja had a big influence on him. What more do you want?

'SR Kaushik; thank you'
"He has also aditted that Roja had a big influence on him."
'SR Kaushik; thank you again'

Imtiaz,
Even if KR said something derogatory abt ARR, that should not prejudice ourselves against his music right???
I vehemently disagree with your stance that KR exists because of his father.Have you tried listening to the songs of "Ullasam", "Unakenna Raasa" from Manickam and the songs from Grahan. If u have, then u will agree with me that KR has brought a technical finesse to Raja's style of composition. You will also agree that he is well versed in various Western styles of music.
The point is that KR has talent, but the number of films that he has handled is not enough to judge his musical abilities yet.
Re. the comment he made, u should be aware that these Bollywood magazines have a dirty habit of misrepresenting stmts and creating controversies.
IMO, we should not let these misrepresentations color our judgement.

hi folks
If you've listened to the title track in "Pocahontas", u've heard "Veesum Kaatrukku" (Ullasam). Innovative hunt for inspiration!
BTW, his "Unakkenna raasa" number was magical, hard to believe PS sang that.. KR is pretty good, only that he tries to
over-experiment pressured as he is by the weight of his father's reputation + the fact that he'll be rated against ARR. He's done
some innovative work in his short career, esp. with chorus and humming (ex. the "yaarival, yaarival" BG chorus in the charanam
of "veesum katrukku" and the "vela, vela" humming in the 1st interlude of "saravanabhava"). With time, he'll surely be up there
with the best, IMO..

Unnakenna Raasa is undoubtedly his best number so far. It clearly brings out his talent. Also nowadays he composes some beats for IR's songs. So watch out: if IR has given a great beat, it may be KR's!!
