"Pogum vazhiyellam " . If I am not mistaken , its from rakshagan. It is one of my favouroit songs. This film has few more sweet meledious numbers that didn't become as popular as the rest of the songs in this pictures.

have to agree with u on this one:)
ratchagan's "kanava illai kaatra" is a wonderful song that missed its due recognition

Guys
As i type (22:10), Chennai FM's Ilayabharatham is on air with Payangal Mudivathillai's "Ilaya Nila" following Mouna Raagam's "Nilave Vaa". What epic songs, with magic interludes? How many MDs can strike the subtle sinous blend of perfect vocals, tune, interludes, as seamlessly as IR does?

Suresh:
I agree. I get the same feeling when I listen to Payanangal Musivadillai or Mouna Raagam and several others - In fact every time I listen to Ilaya Nila, it sounds new and fresh as if it is a new song.

Guys
I was listening to songs from 'usirE'. The beginning of the Chitra solo, resembles the beginning of the Jency number, 'iRRRRRu paRRRRRRRRRavaigal malai muzhuvadhum'. Doesn't it?

doubter,
you are probably right. The Bhava song is basically 'kannE kalaimAnE' from moonrAm piRai with some 'sruthibedham' or a higher pitch, if I am not mistaken.

guys
had a chance to see karisakattu poove yesterday.
amazing bgm stuff from IR andsome songs r too great. i guess that the tragic end of the movie is the main reason for its failure.... anyway the movie went unnoticed among the music lovers, i hope it is not the case with aandan adimai.
vem
I had a chance to see kkp only yesterday-A..Mazing bgm!!
two bits which stand out in my memory -
one place where aayiram kodi is played in a way in WCM manner with a heavy Bach influence-imagine a folk melody with bach overtones !
and the last scene where napolean finds his brother dead-a chorus of voice-all singing a single long note from which a single voice emerges-the chorus rejoins and the theme is taken up by strings...
i just cannot imagine this film witout its bgm.
if any IR fans have not seen this film, dont miss it-the film itself is not too bad either.

Raja's press meet during the release of 'Usire'.
Ilayaraja was the one who infused fresh blood into the Tamil cinema which was rotten once. He is the one
who made cinema music popular. But cassette companies now say that IR has no market now. Because
it is Rahman-yuga in Tamil now. If producers are not able to get ARR, they flock to Deva. Tamil magazines
report that IR is fed up and disheartened. IR's attitude was confirming these during the cassette release
function of Usire. What he spoke to the reporters were total ulta. For some, it might have sounded
philosphical. But it was clear that IR was obviously upset. Sample is given below.
Q: What do you think about the current music trend in the cinema?
A: Trend ... what do you mean by that?
Q: It is about the music telecast in MTV, VTV ....
A: It is not important what it means to me. You tell me what do you think.
Q: Its not like that. You are famous music director. So your words have a value.
A: Who told me that I am famous? I am not. Thyagaraja, Purandara, Mozart - these are greats.
I am a small man.
Q: So you dont like to comment about the present taste of the public.
A: Didnt I tell you already. What are you going to gain from my views. You are the listeners.
You should tell.
Q: But your views are important to the younger generation.
A: According to me, there is nothing good or bad in music. If you find crow's voice as music,
it is fine. Similarly, if you find swaras as musical, that is fine too. I have to talk as an
insider. I cannot pass a comment just like that. This is livelihood for me. If I talk because
of my fame, I will have to sit at home from tomorrow.
Q: People replicate the music while making remake movies. This is a trend now. Do you
think this is a good practice?
A: You should be the ones to decide that. My job is to provide music. For that, music is no
barrier. If they bring it to Kannada, I do not have any connection to that. I am the music.
Q: Does that not mean you dont have a social responsibility to this.
A: I dont have any responsibility. I dont know anything, I dont know music too.
Q: Can we take this as a joke?
A: Its not a joke. I am telling seriously. I dont know music.
Q: But you just told us that you are music ....
A: That's also right, this is also right. these two depends on the angle on which you stand.
Q: You are Ilayaraja, aren't you?
A: This is a good question. I am Ilayaraja, that's all. (Ilayaraja gets up)

oops, sorry for the double posting.
Movie review in this site says 'music is by Isaignani Ilayaraja. But none of the songs are catchy like Ramacharya' (is it also by IR?). Is it a remake of Chinnathambi?
- From: Balaji (@ 208.59.137.31)

Ramacharya is by 'Hamsalekha' (Though copied from Chinna Thambi)
However, one thing is clear that IR does not know what to talk in public. It is better for him to be quiet rather than talking nonsense

I guess we can listen to his music only and not his interviews :-)

Here's my humble opinion..reporting is not just asking questions and answering them. It is understanding the personality whom you are interviewing and let him communicate to the masses through you. That is why it is called a medium !!! The answer to the very first question itself shows that IR does not think there is a trend. This is just his opinion..The reporter should move on to the next question. From then on the atmosphere is totally vitiated. Reporters should ask him questions on the musical aspect of his songs and BGM..he is a technical guy..he does not care for silly stuff like copying/trend etc..Also, it is the media's responsibility to comment about the music/trend etc..Can IR say SAR's music sucks ? Deva is one hell of a copy cat ? ARR is hiding behind technology ? (okay..I made these up..I am not saying it is IR's opinion). No..it is not good thing to say. So these sort of questions should never be asked (see IR says he is an insider).
Dont think I am justifying IR's reactions because I am his fan. My point music reporting in our media sucks.. The closest I have come to good reporting on film music is themusicmagazine.com, specifically the reporting by Suchitra Lata.

I fully agree with you. Music reporting in our media needs lot of improvement.
Would someone use this opportunity ?
