Hi all,
Just thought of bringing up this topic. ARR is also best known for his sound engineering capabilities.
A few movies like Thirudha Thirudha (1993) and Kadhal Desam (1996) comes to my mind instantly, as he has given the best engineered sound ahead of that time..the sound is so refreshing..even if you hear the songs now..you will feel as though you are listening to songs composed recently..
Please do provide your feedback on this..

Since everyone is in a mood to joke, let us hear a joke about Ilayaraja too.
There is a theory that "If a monkey were to type randomly on a typewriter for long enough, it would eventually type Hamlet".
Similarly, someone gave IR some instruments and a troupe, he has been dishing out hundreds of movies and thousands of songs. IR has proved the theory right by giving a nice song once in every 10 movies or so.

Agneye,
Whatever you have given here about "Sound Engineering" is encouraging and a very good information and a gr8 read. Did you notice, the product of such dedication and effort were Classics? and dull craps...

Thanks MIL
My point was that we don't have that many sound engineers compare to western world.
How many Indian institutes offer sound engineering as major course? And how many schools encourage student to learn at least one musical instrument.
If we had groups of sound engineers working in the background, Real composers like Illayraja will surface more often.
I feel in our Indian industry whether it is drama, musicals yakshgaan or film we need two different layers similar to one existing here. In which, One layer will do sound engineering and other one composing. That would mean more jobs, innovation and No blatant copying
ARR has sound engg. + some composing capability ,, harris and ysr follows but the invisible rest who have only composing capability are hidden deep in the crowd. .
So we need to discuss this

agneye: Some of what you point out was discussed in another thread- 'Why is the music industry in India differs greatly from Europe,USA and Canada?'

Rahman uses too much reverb on voices on too many songs ... awful ... heyyyyyyyy .. turnnn downnn thaaa reveeeerb, Rahmannnnn
And the fake moog wind sound he uses on songs like KatraeEnvasal and Evanooruvan really blows.

IN INDIA AS OUR SOCIO CULTURAL CLIMET WE R OFTEN BUSY HEARING NOISE .SO OUR RECORDS R MORE NOISY.WE REFER TO HOLLYWOOD AS REFERENCE.ONE THING IS CERTAIN THAT LIGHT TRAVELS FASTER THAN SOUND SO WE NEED TO SERCH THE SOUND IN LIGHT RATHER MAKING NOISE THAT OBSTRUCT LIGHT.
