rjay,
deva's biggest musical hits aasai and nerukku ner feature several straight lifts. So the audience definitely do not have a way of knowing whether the song is original or not. my point is this guy is surviving only because of his lifts and he talks in public as though he is all humble and good.
having such a page would not cause a big dent in the casette sales any time soon. but it would definitely do 2 things:
1. expose deva before the CD-buying public. many in india cannot afford to buy CDs and dont have access to internet either. but a good majority of the net surfing public atleast in the US are definitely capable of affording CDs. and some of them do idlise deva. in fact sometime vack there were 2 guys here who were praising deva in and out in this forum and in the process irritating others. i dont whether thye were doing it for fun or not. so deva would get EXPOISED before this crowd.
2. from our standpoint it would give us a satisfaction of doing something good to the public and also satisfaction of bringing to light the criminal activities of these guys.
and reg. the few good originals u are talking of deva.. well they are originals only as long as their sources are not found!!!

RJAY: You want to thank Deva for the 'few' original blessings he has showered on us. I do too! In fact I want more. Quite a few times these MD's accuse that there is an entire network which forces them into copying (viz. Dir., Prod., Financier, Director's Pet Dog etc). My point is, then let somebody make it "expensive" for one of these ultimate culprits. Hopefully, this blatant and rampant copying will stop.
Plus, your use of copying programs, codes, is not relevant here. You are just doing your job, and with all apologies, there is not a fan club waiting for the output from your creative juices. Nobody has conferred the title 'programmer thendral', or 'software puyal' or 'code dhEvan' on you (yet!).:-) If they do, trust me, the originators of the code/program/software will come after you!

This is true for any music director.
I was happy:
Before I found the source of "Endha Poovilum Vaasam Undu" from Murattu Kaalai.
Before I found the source of "Kanavu Kaanum Vaazhkai Yaavum".
Before I found the source of flute phrase in "Manjal Nilaavukku Indru" Orae sugam.
Before I found the source of percussion, bass arrangement of "Anbae Anbae Kollaathae" from Jeans.
Before I found the source of "Karisal Tharisu" from Taj Mahal.
Let us be happy that we are able to appreciate good music irrespective of the source.

I have heard before that 'originality is the art of concealing your sources'. ;)
(I have written almost an essay on the topic
in forum hub sometime back, in the context of
literature).
I dont think Deva's activity is criminal.
I just see him as a good musician and poor
composer. If some people idolise him,
I dont mind.

"I would rather thank Deva for his few
original compositions and feel grateful for the
few moments of bliss he has given me, rather
than strip him off his dress in public.
Ravi,.
Life of a genuine musician
starts his life by passing n number of grades, practices music 28 hrs a day...finally
sits through out the day-night composes bar by bar and he makes sure he does not sound like msv, ir or arr or tom d and h....struggles to balance and record a song get a wonderful quality....and finally when it comes out he looses the race to people like deva, who just gets a CD from shelf, with the help of a sampler...the song is ready within 3 mins.
The genuine musican is killed along with music here.

RJAY: rewind the tape on the Hindi Film Industry by about 25+ years. We had SDB, Salil, SJ, LP, RDB, Madan Mohan etc. Of these RDB was the first culprit to have a higher percentage of copies. The jerk was creative (almost similar to ARR) yet succumbed to the copy temptation more than the others. I am not saying the others didn't - just less. You know what happened thereafter. In came Bappi Lahiri, and then the downward spiral started. I came from there to Ilayaraja and then discovered the treasures of MSV (having born and raised outside thamizh nadu) and later the advent of ARR. I don't want the Devas, SARs, etc killing it just like Bappi Lahiri. You know what - Bappi Lahiri was called the cleanest and the most dedicated MD in Bombay during his prime. No vices and very timely delivery. But his damage was more permanent. I don't want the kungumapottu chandhanam Deva with a clean image kill what I am really proud of.

Concerto No.1 for Guitar and Orchestra in D Major, Op.99 by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco
2nd Movement: Andantino alla romanzo
3rd Movement: Ritmico e cavalleresco
This is not a note by note copy. A brilliant adaptation by AR Rahman.
2nd Movement is inspiration for pallavi.
3rd movement is inspiration for 2nd charanam.

People have actually offered the title
of Programmer Puyal, to me before, for which I politely and humbly refused!
But we have been in a position where we have to spend a
week learning some
one's code and rearranging it for our purposes,
and to the boss, we may hesitate to tell that
we actually redid an existing program, thinking,
he might think we did not work, we in fact, did
lot of customisation!
I do agree that the page will act as a
conscience to the stealers. If people
know that sooner or later they would get found
out, they will steal less and compose more!
With internet, more and more music is being
heard by more and more people and with
forums like this, a composer cannot use
three notes in a row (or should I call it
sequence) without a few postings
spitting on him! Jokes apart, in MSV's time
few people had harmonium at hand to learn scales
and reuse them. In Raja's time few people
had knowledge of staff notation to learn from
rich western traditions. In Rahman's time,
(until 1992) nobody had this much access to
the music he was listening to. I pity Rahman
and the next composer-extraordinaire,
nobody can enjoy being an idol!

Tangathele ore kurai irunthalum tharathil kuraivathu undo....gold is mixed with Copper.
msv or raja copies agreed...but 97% they gave good stuff.we call them Music director...composer....
But deva ....0% original, rest is copy.
how to call him...thief, thirudan....tell me...
what the hell? I am not able to play a new tamil song to my (western) friends...they are laughing at me, they clearly draw a square that indian musicians copy from them..This is what deva has done to our tamil music.

Rjay/Sridhar/Srikanth: You guys are musicians too and pretty good at that. You SHOULD feel jealous of Deva's undeserved success. You SHOULD feel the urge to want and relish his 'getting caught'. If not, I question your dedication to true creative music.

nobody can enjoy being an idol!
what a statement! i wish this became true. to be realistic, this needs to be changed to nobody can enjoy being an idol for long.

add to your list "puththam pudhu kAlai" beginning.

I do understand the frustration and anger
of the composer whose work Deva lifted.
What I meant was that copycats very easily
get disrespected, they may be in business
like grocery stores (buying and selling) but
most of their music gets forgotten very soon,
whereas genuine musicians who have had the
training and do the hardwork, strive for originality, will sure
see the light of the day, sooner or later and
shine like stars for a long time on the scene.
Ithil neer entha ragam endru umakkae theriyum ;)
I meant Deva is a good musician because
he plays others compositions fairly well.
(in rhtyhm and in scale.)
I said, Musician, As against, Composers who make their own music
It is interesting we use the term MD to mean
composer. Actually music directors were originally
people who directed where which music should be
played for a movie, and they used only existing
songs and sequences. Original music came into
movies much later, both in Hollywood and
in other woods! hence the term MD.
